What are staple items in a "natural" first aid kit/medicine chest?

I like to avoid medicines wherever possible so usually keep a stash of vitamin C & zinc tablets to ward off colds and also have the obligatory arnica balm/gel and tea tree oil. Are there any other natural products that I shouldn't be without? Thanks.

Lavender oil can be applied straight to burns (after holding under cold water for plenty of time of course) and it will help prevent blistering and aid healing.

Manuka honey - for sore throats also burns -my friend's son had 3rd degree burns on his legs from an exploding gas canister and completely recovered due to lots of manuka honey under clean bandages, the plastic surgeon was astounded (in fact he didn't need surgery in the end)

Tea tree oil - disinfectant, good for fungal things, rashes, spots, mouth ulcers

anorak · 21/05/2007 16:09

Thyme or sage oil works well on verrucas.

PinkTulips · 21/05/2007 16:12

i cried when i was pregnant last year and really wanted the baby one but couldn't afford it

how sad am i?!

i have a hippy first aid kit in my bag and have to say the 2 most used items are the arnica and calendula creams (and chamomilla when ds is teething)

might be nice to buy an aloe vera plant for the house too as they are very useful (just murdered the baby one my mom gave me to help ds's sunburn!)

PeachyChocolateEClair · 21/05/2007 17:26

Isn't silver an anti bacterial?

Might be something else as well, might go call Mum (as she knows these things)

PeachyChocolateEClair · 21/05/2007 17:27

yep, plus antibiotic and immune system booster

so for cuts grazes etc

alipiggie · 21/05/2007 17:37

hepar sulphuris 6c homeopathic tablets - great for reducing catarrh.

If you're anyway near London go into Whole Foods they have an incredible range of homeopathic tablets/medicines. As do Holland & Barrett.

Another vote for Arnica - best thing ever in cream/gel for little bumps and bruises.

PinkTulips · 21/05/2007 18:10

ah.. thought it might be something along those lines.

honey (just plain everyday honey if you don't want to shell out for manuka) is a lifesaver when you get a burn or a scald. and handy for sore throats too

suziesausage · 22/05/2007 07:40

I got my colloidal silver from Natural Child It's in a really big bottle and has lasted for ages. I think they've got grapeseed extract too

sibble · 22/05/2007 07:57
