Rosacea linked to blepharitis. Has anyone had this?

A couple of years ago (I'm 43) I started having trouble with my eyes. I saw an ophthalmic physician who said I had blepharitis. I had 2 different drops and she told me how to clean my eyes. I also stopped using any face products with SPF as it was irritating my eyes. Things improved straight away and I had a long period symptom free.
A couple of weeks ago I got a blocked duct and despite using the OTC drops I've had before and cleaning my eyes according to the doctor's instructions it hasn't cleared up.
Now my nose has flared up in red bumps and is quite sore.
When I googled it looks like it is rosacea on my nose and it can be connected to blepharitis.
Has anyone had the two of these? I'm not sure if I should make a GP appointment or see the ophthalmic physician again.
My eye looks awful now and is quite sore. It could be months before I get an appointment for the oph. phys.
Has anyone any advice?

Yes you can get rosacea on your face and it can effect your eyes.
Some people start with eyes issues and then get problems with rosacea on the face.
Get a GP appointment, you can be prescribed various treatments.

Yes I have both. My derm when I was under her always asked about my eyes.

LapsedHumanist · 07/06/2018 10:07

I’ve found a glycolic acid product every two or three days helps my rosacea. I think it’s because blepharitus and sometimes rosacea are caused by a reaction to demodex mites and the glycolic acid helps with them.

LapsedHumanist · 07/06/2018 10:13

Oh and cut back on sugars (even ones in fruit)

Pinkkahori · 07/06/2018 21:15

Thanks everyone. I asked a pharmacist today and he gave me some things to try on my eye while waiting for an appointment. He didn't think my nose looks like rosacea and might just be a coincidence.
I think I'll have a look at glycolic acid just in case.
Thanks.

I have rosacea and was told by opticians that it can cause blephritis.

I saw a consultant dermatologist in the end for the face and got treated with invermectin, been marvellous. I didn't want to be on antibiotics all the time as they affect the gut. Don't be fobbed off by the GP as it only gets worse if it is rosacea.

SluttyButty · 07/06/2018 21:24

A pharmacist wouldn't have necessarily seen papulopustular pustular Rosacea so definitely see your Gp. There's this wonderful cream for it now called Soolantra.

KitXi · 07/06/2018 21:27

Yes, I have both. I saw an eye consultant about my recurrent blepharitis and as soon as I walked in he said "ah, butterfly rash. You have rosacea!"

My blepharitis seems to have calmed down recently but rosacea is really on the warpath.

LIZS · 07/06/2018 21:28

I have both. Blepharitis flares up from time to time. A few years ago I had a blocked duct on eyelid which had to be surgically drained. Rosacea is more constant.

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 07/06/2018 21:39

Maybe google ocular rosacea? See if it sounds familiar?

JiltedJohnsJulie · 07/06/2018 22:26

I’ve got both and it also affects my corneas. I use an eye mask each morning and I’m finding this soap really helps my skin.

Pippylou · 07/06/2018 22:29

Soolantra = invermectin.

I developed rosacea several years ago which coincided with appearance of meibomian cysts on my eyes. One particularly nasty one which took a year to resolve (I was too chicken to have it surgically excised) and a few more minor ones which I managed to control with hot packs and cleaning 'lash line' with hot water and cotton buds. This all happened after birth of DS2 and I wonder whether it was hormonally linked and I was also run down after 4 years of fairly constant sleep deprivation and bf.
Both eyes and rosacea seem to be much improved now with careful eye hygiene and nothing but cetaphil cleanser and moisturiser on my face.
Haven't tried invermectin but would do if it flared up again.

I was diagnosed with ocular rosacea couple of years ago. (I have mild rosacea on my face - just some minor flushing - and sensitive skin.) It seems that blephartis can be a part of the ocular rosacea. I have drops to control it, plus lubricating drops and eye checks every 3 months, and I use a warm mask and hot flannel to clean at night followed by a soak in an eye bath. In the morning just the hot flannel or blephasol cleaning solution and a quicker eye bath. I was offered a daily antibiotic but they made me feel pretty rough, partly because I take w lot of other medication, I think.

It is not too uncomfortable now it's under control but the worst thing is I can't wear eye make up at all - even just a tiny bit of eyeliner causes my eyes to start streaming.

pearlkent · 26/06/2018 10:55

Hello everyone - I think I've just discovered what's wrong with my eyes! Read an article in Good Housekeeping about ocular rosacea and came straight onto mumsnet to find out more - and wan't surprised to find some wise words.
For months now my eyes have been sore, the lids feel uncomfortable (red and burning), eyes streaming and SO sensitive to light. They look sort of OK but feel terrible. I can't wear eye make-up anymore.
I've always been a bit red around my nose and cheeks, but no pustules.
Does this sound like rosacea? Should I see an optician, opthalmologist, dermatologist or GP? Sound like a lot of GPs aren't capable of diagnosing.

Twotabbycats · 12/07/2018 23:48

PearlKent it sounds like ocular rosacea to me. I had the light sensitivity when it was bad - apparently this happens when the surface of the eye becomes uneven. I had little bumps/blisters on the inside of my eyelids. Am not in U.K. but saw a normal ophthalmologist initially, who didn't know what was wrong and gave me dozens of different antihistamine drops to try, followed by antibiotic that made me feel like I had flu, and cyclosporine drops which stung like hell. Eventually she referred me to a specialist ophthalmologist who deals mostly with conditions like this. Instant diagnosis and the right drops and it's so much better - apart from not being able to wear eye makeup 😢

did you know that tiny mites live in your eyelash follicles and they crawl out at night and shit over your face?
That is why blepharitis and rosacea are connected you see, the mites block the follicles, and their shit causes an allergic reaction on your face.
I see another poster has mentioned ivermectin, this is essentially an insecticide, or rather it kills body parasites.

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 12/07/2018 23:54

… although ivermectin is not on the list of prescribed drugs in the UK so if you want it you have to get it online.
