Nhs breast reduction advice

Hello. Just wondering if anybody has successfully made it through to nhs reduction surgery.

I'm currently a 30GG and a size 10. BMI is well within healthy weight and GP has referred me to the surgeon.

My main issue is my neck and shoulder pain. I've had scans and x rays and they have said it's nothing skeletal. They're just in constant spasm from strain (didn't say definitively from my breasts but it definitely is). I also have chronic breast pain. Most under my arms and around that area but sometimes all over. Sleep is a nightmare as there is no comfortable position. I also get rib and chest pain from bras. They're professionally fitted I just have a small back that's trying to hold up my awful breasts. Basically what I'm asking is.....does anyone know what will happen at the surgeon. Is there a way I can word these issues to make it more likely to get the go ahead.

I am so so excited but don't want to get my hopes up. My neck is so sore tonight and I finally feel like there could be a light at the end of the tunnel

Ok. Slight update. After some advice really. Letter from the surgeon to my gp states " she is definitely a G cup but she has globally round heavy breasts but with minimal ptosis" the use of "but" makes me think it's negative but surely if they're heavy it must be positive. It ends with her saying she will confirm funding with CCG after meeting with her team. Fingers crossed I hear again soon

All the best!!

So....good And bad news....good news, funding has been accepted. Bad news that she doesn't think her panel will take on the reduction as they have a huge waiting list for cancer reconstruction etc. So I have to wait another 2 no the for the panel to meet and make a decision. She also mentioned lipo reduction rather than surgery. So now it's just a waiting game. I thought funding would be the issues.....Confused

Sorry 😔

Cally62 · 14/07/2018 22:15

HI op....

My dd was told the exact same thing. Obviously some patients come first.

My dd got the ok with funding etc. but was told she had to go on a waiting list and that it could take months. It was literally a couple of weeks later and she got a call saying that they could operate the following week.

Don't be disheartened op....tbh I wouldn't have thought lipo wad an option as I think you mentioned that it was all breast tissue and not fat.

Anyway...fingers crossed. Flowers

Gaggle2 · 15/07/2018 17:38

Thank you. Yes I'd had ultrasounds before where they said my breast were very dense and glandular so they struggled to get needles to cysts before. So I can't see lipo being an option but I live in hope. She also mentioned needing to take at east 500g grams from each breast and mentioned she wasn't sure I had the volume. But I disagree. They're a pretty full G cup and she said 500g is only 3 cup sizes!!! I guess I just wait it out. Thank you for your support.

Morning Gaggle

Just keep positive. 500g from each breast would be a whole kilo. Think my dd had just over that removed and it made a huge difference.

Yes...I guess it's just a waiting game now. Fingers crossed it won't be too long.

Flowers oh and you'll need Gin

squirrelnutkins1 · 27/07/2018 22:04

Any news? @Gaggle2

Gaggle2 · 30/07/2018 09:23

I'm in this one with you Gaggle2, I've been referred for funding so fingers crossed I'll hear something soon.

Gaggle2 · 30/07/2018 21:39

Good luck.what areas are you in? Shockingly for me getting funding was the easy part....now it's all in the hands of the panel of surgeons. I'm starting to lose hope now though.

OP posts:
KakunaRattata · 30/07/2018 22:48

As it is I'm not holding out hope, but the idea of the pain going away almost makes it hurt more iykwim. I'm NW, suppose it'll depend on priorities here, I fit the criteria easily but I could also be a long way down the queue even if they say yes.

Gaggle2 · 31/07/2018 08:24

Well my GP said there was basically no chance. That she would write the letter but I would never get funding. I got funding straight away, so don't lose hope. I dream of a day without breast pain and neckache !!

KakunaRattata · 31/07/2018 11:13

I can't even imagine what it would be like without the pain now!
