First Aid courses for parents - where?

I've been feeling for ages that it would be sensible for me and Dh to do a short first aid course so that we'd know how to deal competently if anything happened to the kids.

Struggling to find one!

I live in East London. Happy to pay a reasonable fee - but a private trainer for just me and dh (poss also my mum) seems over the top. Difficult to get childcare - would be nice if the babies could come. Weekend would be good so Dh could attend.

Does anyone know a course like this?

St John Ambulance, red cross, your HV should know of some local ones. Sorry - dd shouting from upstairs - gotta go. HTH

I live in North London and we had one organised by the local health centre. Speak to your health visitor and ask if they do one. It was run by a sweet chap from the St John's Ambulance and cost £5 (optional donation).

Failing that, St John's Ambulance do a really useful booklet with special sections on babies and children. I think they are available through their website.

Hi, I used to run a first aid training company, but stopped a couple of years ago because of all the travelling to London I had to do!!

Anyway, in my area the local council run lots of courses in our town hall, painting, yoga, first aid etc. Do you have a similar 'service' in your area. Failing that, try St John Ambulance , although I have to admit that they're courses do tend to be a bit boring. Alternatively there is Clayton training , I used to do freelance work for them, they run courses countrywide.

I did once deliver a first aid course at a doctors surgery in London for new mums, that was run by a friend of mine. I'm not sure if he's still organising courses for Mums and babies groups.

If you have no joy, I'll see if I can find out for you.

Can I just add, I think that it is fantastic that you and your DH are taking an interest in first aid, in my experience lots of parents aren't interested, which is a real shame. Well done you in advance!!

Thanks.

My health visitor is a little vague on the issue ('ask in reception, they might know').

I've got the st johns ambulance brochure - but I presume it's not appropriate to bring your kids along. Do you think they'd do a one-off course for not too much money if I got my local mother and toddlers group interested?

Hiwbb - if your friend is still doing mother and baby group courses in london - I'd love to know his schedule. I'm pretty mobile N/E/SE london.

I'm on kif_ess at yanoo co uk

Hi Kif, sorry for delay in getting back to you.

Have a look at Principal Training , my friend who runs it is Rob Shaloe, he's really nice and a very good instructor!! Tell him that Nicky Holmes gave you his name.

our hv organised one at the clinic. it was given by a paramedic from the ambulance service - try either!

Sometimes agencies provide first aid courses so could have a look there, I did mine at Little Ones when my first DC was 3, was super handy for me as they hold them in Central London and I'm in Harringay but I know places like Babyem do them as well!
