What is this rash on my back??

Cheekycherry99 · 02/06/2018 00:03

I've had this rash for around 3 weeks now and I'm very worried about it. I have anxiety (especially around health) and I'm thinking the worst. Please offer suggestions of what you think it could be.
Thanks in advance

Does it itch?

Is it painful?

dontbesillyhenry · 02/06/2018 00:20

The blotchy appearance would suggest an allergic reaction of some sort ...have you ate anything different? Used any new bath products?

springbluebells · 02/06/2018 00:25

Could it be heat related perhaps?

springbluebells · 02/06/2018 00:27

Has it spread or stayed the same size?

Fadingmemory · 02/06/2018 00:28

Cherry, I am not a medic, so a suggestion only... Could this, rather than a rash, be one of the well-known skin conditions such as psoriasis (which I have)? The only way you will find out is to see a doctor. Would it help to take a trusted friend/relative/partner with you? Sorry I can’t offer any more advice than that. My psoriasis is part of me so to speak - I keep well moisturised and carry on regardless. There are other approaches but the condition varies from one person to another. Of course it might be something else entirely.

Lucked · 02/06/2018 00:29

Do you use a hot water bottle on your back?

springbluebells · 02/06/2018 00:35

Urging you to get an appointment with your GP if you're worried... in meantime keep it clean and regularly apply some antiseptic cream like savlon... x

Bluesheep8 · 02/06/2018 06:27

That looks like my psoriasis when it flares up in that it looks like a scales but it's also maddeningly itchy. Calms down with steroid cream though. See the doctor, op.

Bluesheep8 · 02/06/2018 06:28

Looks like a SCALD

beetfarmer · 02/06/2018 06:48

Does it itch op? Have you taken any antihistamines?

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 02/06/2018 06:59

DS2 has had that rash as an allergic reaction to suncream. Have you used different shower gel, body lotion, detergent?

IWouldLikeToKnow · 02/06/2018 07:10

I would think it's unlikely to be a reaction to a cream/shower gel as it's quite localised. It does seem fairly intense. Definitely worth a visit to a dr or even a pharmacist to have them take a look. Possibly eczema / dermatitis?

Lazypoolday · 02/06/2018 07:24

Could it be fungal? I see some ringworm like circles at the bottom

PavlovaPrincess · 02/06/2018 10:44

You really need to see a doctor, OP.

It looks like psoriasis to me and if you are stressed and anxious, it will make it worse. Does it itch?

3luckystars · 02/06/2018 10:48

You need to see the doctor.

While waiting for the appointment, go to the pharmacist and ask them. It’s free and they have been to college as long as the doctor and have seen a lot too!

Good luck and don’t worry just go and ask for help.

QueenoftheNights · 02/06/2018 11:19

Why have you put up with this for 3 weeks and not seen a medical person? Shock?

Make an appt with your dr.
Meanwhile see a pharmacist ask for a private consultation in their rooms.

Cheekycherry99 · 02/06/2018 14:15

Yeah it is itchy from time to time. I have started using the E45 itch relief cream and that is helping a bit.
I can't think of what has caused it, I haven't used anything different or had different food.
I haven't got it looked at before because I was trying to ignore it and pretend nothing was wrong as it worries me Confused

Op it doesn't look worrying to me but it looks uncomfortable. Hopefully a gp could just prescribe a cream that would help.

smashhits90s · 02/06/2018 15:22

Fungal infection. It's not contagious as your body produces it itself. You need an anti fungal cream from your GP and a special shampoo that you can use as a body wash.

I had the exact same thing on my shoulder blades. I always get it when it's really hot and my body over produces the yeast.
