Ferritin levels

Would anybody mine helping?
I went to the GP because I’ve been feeling so awful - mostly with feeling exhausted, struggling to walk as far as I used to without having to stop a few times, wanting to sleep all the time and muscle aches. I was guessing my iron was low as I have heavy periods. Anyway my haemoglobin level was 12 about 4 months ago, and this time I’ve been tested for ferritin and it’s come back as 24. Told by the receptionist it was normal. I think it’s still on the lower side? Could these results still explain the symptoms I’m experiencing? Any help gratefully received.

Wow missed that one. Will try and wade through it.

I agree that I feel there's a level of sexism around hypothyroidism as it's mostly women who suffer.

Firstly though, if you are ttc the levels need to be under 2.5 (which makes me think the range should be different!) but it's a way for some to be medicated - this would prob need to go through an endo or obstetrician referral or just gp writing a letter unless the gp is up on these things.

I'm pregnant and have been feeling rubbish, had my bloods tested and my ferritin is 8. I'm also b12 deficient, have been for the last 3.5 years. I'd love to feel normal again I'm always so tired. I'm only 31.

@butterfly86 So what is your GP doing about your deficiencies?

butterfly86 · 04/06/2018 07:48

@9amtrain I've been prescribed ferrous fumarate by the hospital for the low ferritin and I get b12 injections every 10 weeks but they don't do a lot I'm still always tired.

@butterfly86

That's really frustrating. Have you had recent tests to see if the ferrous fumarate and injections are increasing your actual levels? They may be able to increase them or something.

Have they tested your Vitamin D, folate etc too?

I think they should also look at your folic acid, vitamin D and B levels. I think palpitations can be linked to low B12 levels in particular.
