Mole checking

I’ve got loads of moles on my back that I obviously can’t see very easily. I’ve no reason to think any in particular are dodgy but as I can’t see them, I don’t know.
I really don’t want to waste a GP’s time but is it a good idea to get them looked at just to check they’re ok seeing as I have so many??

One of the things to look out for in moles I believe is itching and any change in size. However as you can’t see them it might be worth mentioning to the doctor when you next go for a check up or another reason to see what they think or ask your receptionist. They’re usually pretty good at advising whether an appointment is necessary and if unsure can ask the doctor for you :) x

You can be referred for a mole checking service to a dermatologist. However my gp referred me (also lots of moles) then they discharged me as none dodgy rather than monitoring me long term. There are private services that photographically document them then use comparison to monitor changes - that might be worth a look if you are worried?

Lots of useful info here about mole checking and what to look for.

If you can't see the moles on your back, you can pay a dermatologist to do a full body check. As far as I know, you can't just book a GP appointment and ask for an all over body mole check - but you can definitely go to the GP and ask them to look at a few specific moles if you are worried about them - such as the ones on your back.

I had a dodgy mole, was referred to hospital and had it removed. While I was there, the dermatologist checked me all over and took pictures of some which were more unusual but not unusual enough to do something about there and then. He then gave me copies of the photos and said to compare from time to time to look for changes.

Get someone to take pictures of your back. If anything looks odd, go see the GP about specific moles, otherwise keep the images and look for changes over time.

I've had a couple checked by the derm, and they said that it is usually newer/flat ones to pay attention to, particularly if they grow.

Second photos of back if you have someone who can!

If you are near London I'd recommend the mole clinic.

Thanks everyone. The photos idea is great - maybe I’ll start there and then see my doc/a clinic if I’ve anything to be concerned about.
