This is a bit embarrassing, but I know you lot are unshockable!

A couple of weeks ago I thought I had thrush. It was sore, rather than itchy, which it usually is for me with thrush, but I assumed that's what it was. I only just got round to treating it as it wasn't that bad, and I kept forgetting it.

Anyways, I treated it with Canestan Combi and hoped it had gone away. It hasn't. It obviously isn't thrush.

It is a kind of stinging pain, and when I look it appears the area is cracked - as there is a small cut (perineal kind of area), although it is not dry. It's a little red, but not too bad.

I've not been having random sexual experiences, nor anything kinky (actually, not much of anything going on in that area at all!!). What could it be? Mears, or anyone have any thoughts? TIA

eek - just because canesten combi hasn't worked it does not mean it isn't thrush. I find canesten very irritating myself. It could be though that the skin has been nicked and that is the cause of pain. You could try sudocreme for a few days. Diflucan tablets are good for thrush and you can buy them over the counter £12 though. You take 1 tablet by mouth.

Also worth knowing taht some people can have an allergic reaction to one of the ingrediants in Caneston which can give you the symptome you describe,I am one of them!
Diflucan is good and flucozole (I think thats the name) my GP also prescribed gyno daktarin and I have found taht useful.
If you have haad areaction I should see your GP because when I had a similar experience I didn't and it the skin down there is very fragile and easily damaged,Iended up having to have steriod cream.

you could make a weak solution of tea tree oil and warm water, just 2 - 3 drops of oil to say a cupful of water and dab the area. i find it quite soothing and of course it is anti bacterial.

or drops of lavender in bath - I get like that with thrush sometimes - really sort of dry and sore. ow.

poppyseed · 13/08/2004 20:42

Agree with Philly - take care using Canesten near any mucous membrane.. I too am allergic to something in it - what a sight I looked when I found out - walking with legs at ten to two to the GPs as fast as I could...grin{}

I used Lavender oil just the once years ago and it worked a treat - haven't had it since, just a few drops in the bath.
