Blood when pooping

user1490729595 · 26/05/2018 18:50

I am going crazy here !! I will obviously phone the drs on Monday and make an appointment but just looking to see if anyone's had the same symptoms.

Years ago i had blood when i pooped and went to the drs who had a look and said i had a tear, i got cream etc and its been on and off ever since.

My poops are so hard sometimes and its like im pooping glass and out comes bright red blood. Its on the pan and not in my poop so I can only assume and hope this is still a tear!

I should also mention im very bloated at the moment, ive been to the gym monday tuesday thursday friday and I'm still very bloated!

And also sometimes when i poop its like mucusy discharge comes out my back bum too ! & How embarrassing... my wind has smelled quite bad for the past couple of days!

Anyone else had this ??

Thankyou xx

I used to get this a few years back. It was a fissure (tear) that kept recurring. It would explode onto the toilet bowl rather than be on my poo. It would hurt to pass if my poo was dry.
Its totally gone now.

Sprinklesinmyelbow · 26/05/2018 20:20

Yep sounds like a fissure. They can be really hard to get rid of. My poor H has had them for years. Please don’t worry, as long as it’s fresh blood it’s very likely to be fine

LoislovesStewie · 26/05/2018 20:21

I think you need to go back to the doctor, it might be nothing but best get checked. Do you think you drink enough water?

user1490729595 · 26/05/2018 20:21

Thanks so much for your reply ! It was a tear a couple years ago when i went to the drs and my blood is the same, over the toilet bowl as opposed to in my poop! Im just panicking cause the blood😩

I definitely drink enough water but my fruit and veg intake could be so much better🤦🏽‍♀️

Sorry the other thing I meant to say is it’s likely that your symptoms mean your poo isn’t easy to get out which is causing the tears. Could also be piles. Rather than wait until Tuesday, why not go and speak to a pharmacist or get some over the counter hemmoriod cream?

reallyanotherone · 26/05/2018 20:23

Are you american o/p? “Pan” and “poop” are americanisms, although i’ve seen poop increasingly sneaking into th english vocab.

I keep getting distracted by the poop! It’s such an odd word.

If it’s bright red blood it is likely to be a tear. Which will be made worse if you’re constipated and straining. Address your diet, lots of fluid and fibre, and see how it goes..

user1490729595 · 26/05/2018 20:25

I got a cream from boots today and having a bowl of fibre morning and night now hopefully eases everything.

How can you tell the difference between fresh blood and blood actually IN your poop?

Try to eat more fruit/ veg. I find apricots to be good for doing the trick. So does a glass of Guinness!

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 26/05/2018 20:27

Any blood from the back passage needs to be checked.

Bright red blood is less likely to be something sinister. But it is still a possibility and must be investigated.

Try some stool softener to help with the discomfort and make a GP appointment ASAP.

Sprinklesinmyelbow · 26/05/2018 20:28

It doesn’t really matter tbh- if it’s fresh it won’t have been in your bowel, it’s either got into the pop in transit or come out separately.

There may not be a quick fix- it’s obviously an internal tear and being irritated every time you poo (go easy on the fruit and fibre! Grin) loads of water though, a healthy diet and moderate exercise.

hungryhippie · 26/05/2018 20:28

Blood thats in your poo looks dark, rather than red. It can even be black. Fresh blood is bright red, like when you cut yourself.

user1490729595 · 26/05/2018 20:30

Yeah I'm definitely going to make an appointment on tuesday first thing. Ive been before and dr said it was a tear and it has come and gone since then!

The blood is bright red, not clotty and is mainly on the toilet bowl and on the toilet paper when i dab my bum (too scared to wipe haha)

That’s not the NHS advice- link here gives reasons to see your GP
www.nhs.uk/conditions/bleeding-from-the-bottom-rectal-bleeding/

Of course it wouldn’t do any harm to go- apart from potentially wasting your time- but don’t expect them to be particularly concerned by what you describe

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 26/05/2018 20:30

Even bright red fresh blood that is not mixed in with bowel movements can be a sign of bowel disease. I know this from personal experience. It is most likely a fissure or similar given your symptoms. But you still need to see your GP.

user1490729595 · 26/05/2018 20:33

Oh would you mind letting me know what your experience was?

Im getting myself in such a panic here ! Going by the descriptions it is definitely bright red so fresh blood and not in my poops! when i poop my bum hole feels as though it has glass passing through it until the poop is out!

OP posts:
Sprinklesinmyelbow · 26/05/2018 20:38

That’s exactly as DH describes it- pooing glass shards. Oowwwweeee

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 26/05/2018 20:39

I was trying not to alarm you because I'm in a tiny minority and your symptoms sound exactly like an anal fissure. But I didn't want you to ignore it.

Unfortunately my bright red blood and mucus was caused by bowel cancer.

But that really is the least likely explanation! Even if it's something more than a fissure it is far more likely to be a number of other bowel conditions.

user1490729595 · 26/05/2018 20:42

Oh noo im so sorry! I'm definitely going to make an appointment on tuesday first thing! Im just panicking 😩 did you have any other symptoms?

OP posts:
MrsCD67 · 26/05/2018 20:42

Make sure you drink as much as is advised and also try to slowly introduce more fibre into your diet. Do it slowly though as your body needs to get used to it!

BackToTheFuschia7 · 26/05/2018 21:00

It sounds like fissures op but definitely worth getting checked again if it’s been a while since you last saw the GP about it.

user1490729595 · 26/05/2018 21:02

Thanks so much everyone for your replies💗xx

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 26/05/2018 21:31

I had a couple of occasions of strong cramps, but nothing else.

But I really must reiterate that it is so very likely to be a fissure. I've had those too and the symptoms sound identical.

Ask your pharmacist for something to help while you're waiting to see the GP. If your GP surgery is anything like mine you'll be waiting quite a few days for a routine appointment so you might as well try and ease the symptoms in the meantime.
