DH had Australian Flu at the beginning of the year. Completely floored for two weeks. This left him with a chest infection which he had three lots of antibiotics for.
The Dr said at this point that he'd had pneumonia.
He has had a cough since the flu in January. Not constant but coughs a few times a day and (TMI) coughs up phlegm.
He went back to the dr last month, who said he had a crackle that wasn't at the top or bottom of his chest (unusual apparently) and gave him another course of antibiotics.
Also had another chest x-ray which was clear.
he's still got the cough - had a phone appt with the Dr today who says he thinks it's reflux. DH has no other symptoms of reflux.
So (and thank you if you're still with me) is reflux a possibility? What else could it be? Any suggestions welcome.

My reflux presents as a cough (particularly at night, waking me up), and a phlegmy throat that I have to constantly clear. No pain or discomfort. Omeprazole sorts it out.

My mum had a cough for years, could not get to the bottom of it - round after round of ABs. One month on omeprazole and it was gone. No other symptoms either

Thanks both. Fingers crossed it gets sorted soon

I've been coughing for over a year now. Also on omeprazole but still coughing a bit.

I developed asthma a couple of years ago after child birth a a few bad viruses that led to pneumonia easily.

But a key symptom was waking at 2am every night coughing uncontrollably. Smoke and chemicals made it considerably worse too.

My oh had pneumonia then his lungs acted a bit like an asthmatics for a few months after - an inhaler helped and it gradually got better

VerbenaBoriensis · 28/05/2018 23:48

Maybe asthma hay fever or silent reflux (bit different from acid reflux-no acid obs!) I'm not a gp just throwing in possibilities. 3 lots of antibiotics sounds a lot.

There's another thread on here at the moment about someones ds with a cough-might be worth a squizz?

Pippylou · 29/05/2018 00:02

Look at nasal drip too.

Tryingoutanothername · 29/05/2018 00:06

Post nasal drip... saline nose spray for a few days

Yes the way the asthma was diagnosed was that a blue inhaler did help considerably if I used it at the first sign of the cough, then later (after some pushing and a chat with Asthma UK) they tested my peak flow which was low, and better after the blue. So I was started on a brown.

Subsequent coughs were quite severe, cold weather and smoke sets me off badly.

Tbh I've always been a bit like this but never wheezed or got bad enough to need hospital - it just seems to have got worse in my late 30s early 40s, and especially so after that bad virus.

Several people I know had asthma like sumptuous following the same infection and needed inhalers. One woman now also on brown too.

Thanks for all the suggestions. The fact that it is a "productive" cough probably rules out asthma.
He's been prescribed tablets for reflux so well see what happens.
