I really hope someone can offer my some advicere cause I feel desperate.
I'm 47 years old. Been feeling really really tired and low/ irritable.
I'm struggling to lose weight. I've been on a low calorie diet, no drinking and upped my exercise and have lost 2Ibs over 2 weeks.
A year ago I could easily lose 5-7Ib in a week.

Doctor has done bloods and everything ok. Thyroid, vit D, liver function, kidney function.
Periods regular although they have shortened. First few days really heavy and then almost nothing for a few days.

I'm really desperate, I'm sick of feeling like this. I try to do the housework and I have to keep sitting down .

I go to bed early and seem to sleep ok bit wake up feeling utterly exhausted.
Can anyone offer and advice as I'm not sure what to do.
Thank you

Peri menopause?

2 lb in a week is good!

loveyoutothemoon · 25/05/2018 14:32

Sounds like you need a hormone profile doing.

2Ib in 2 weeks on 800 kcal a day.

Would HRT help? I think I am peri menopausal. But what can I do to help?
The weight thing is really getting me down Sad

HRT has really helped me. I’m now loosing weight slowly but steadily and am a lot less tired.

You're bound to be tired eating only 800 calories a day!

I'd focus more on getting your energy levels sorted before trying to lose weight. How are your iron levels? If your periods are heavy, you could be anemic.

Just to say that 2lb a week is above average weight loss..1lb a week is average. I know that more feels better (and goodness knows I understand the desire to have it happen faster, I've been there and got the t shirt), but if you are losing 5 - 7 lbs a week it's not true weight you are losing. So please, don't feel down about that 2lbs, it's a great result in and of itself. Just think..to lose 2lbs you have to create a deficit of 7000 calories..if your TDEE is the oft reputed 2000 a day then 7000 is HALF of your weekly food allowance..managing to not eat that much is a real achievement.

I started to have similar symptoms and have found taking a good daily multi-vit (wellwoman original in my case) has helped massively. I have much more energy, sleep better, and the weight is starting to shift a bit more...

Be careful if you are eating too few calories as this can have the opposite effect and your body goes into starvation mode.

I have just finished a course in nutrition and have been looking into the effects of menopause/hormones on weightloss as diet plays a major part in all of it. Eat good, wholesome/wholegrain foods, lots of veg and fruit, no junk/processed foods and cut out sugar as much as possible. No real need to count calories if you do this and only eat if you're actually hungry, eat slowly, stop when full. Drink lots of water.

Hope you feel better soon.

X-posted there and just seen you are on 800 cals a day - it's no wonder you are lethargic/irritable etc!!
Up your fruit and veg intake, a lot. Include good proteins. This will won't have a huge impact on your overall calorie intake, but will make you feel loads better - honestly!

get a result print out. often GPs send you away with normal results (i.e. within range) even though they are far from optimal. sounds thyroidy to me

MaisieDuke · 25/05/2018 15:50

Thank you for the replies.

I have been feeling tired for about 6 months now.
I just tried the extreme diet (BSD) for the last 2 weeks to see if I could shift some weight.
As I said if I did this a year ago the weight would fall off so 1IB a week is really unusual for me.
Obviously 800 kcal isn't sustainable but I thought I would try to see if it would kick start something.
I really though it would be my thyroid. But GP said all normal.
Maybe I should try some multi vitamins and see how I get on.
Just seems such a uphill struggle

You need to know, for sake of your peace of mind, that 1lb a week isn't unusual..it's losing a lot more than that that is unusual. If you, or anyone else loses more than 1 to 2lb a week then you are bucking the trend, not failing to live up to it, honestly.
