I went to the hygienist about 3 weeks ago who said I had a touch of gingivitis and recession. She suggested adding interdental brushes to my routine (which already included electric toothbrush, daily flossing and water pick) and also brushing more thoroughly in the mornings (which admittedly was not my strong point).

I totally took her advice to heart and now brush ultra-thoroughly and use interdental brushes twice daily, am using corsodyl mouthwash twice a day, and still using the water pick once a day. The problem is, my gums have now really gone up the creek! They seemed fine to me before, now they feel really sore, bleed loads and the recession is loads worse, and my teeth are suddenly sensitive as well. Every time I use the electric toothbrush it now seems to be damaging my gums, which didn't happen before. What do I do now?!! All the advice on-line seems to be to do with improving oral hygiene, but mine literally couldn't be more thorough. I'm tempted to go back to my previous routine, but if my gums are infected that doesn't seem ideal either!
