does chicken pox always start on the torso?

We noticed spots on DS last night and sure enough, this morning there were more and it's definitely chicken pox. DD seems to have just a few red spots on her face but nothing as yet on her torso.
Might it still be chicken pox do you think? I rather hope it is as I'd love to get it all over and done with in one go but MIL says the spots always start on the torso.

TIA

It usually does start n the torso, but not always. If you're not sure of the diagnosis, it's best to ask your GP.

DS's started with 3 spots on the back of his neck - after 48 hours he was covered ...

millicentbystander · 18/05/2007 16:37

ds started on his head, dd on her back

LadyPenelope · 18/05/2007 16:47

started on my dd's face

fannyannie · 18/05/2007 16:54

started on both my DS's faces with just one or two on their backs to start with.

DS1 (who had it last week) got the spots and scabbed over REALLY quickly and felt almost 100% fine throughout.

DS2 who's first tiny spots appeared on Monday has only today/last night got a VERY large quanitity of really big chickenpox blisters and is feeling really rotten with it.......

thanks for the replies.
I'll wait and see what DD is like tomorrow morning then. We've nothing planned for the weekend that can't be changed at short notice.
Do you know, how long generally does it take from spot to appear until scabbing over starts?
DS has two on his back last night that were blisters and they look like they are nearer gone already! Bless him, he seems to have been hit worse on his face. Spots have been appearing before my eyes this afternoon

ds1 started with one just above his top lip that we were suspicious of, came home fromm nursery with another 1 on his chest and by evening had loads

DS2 started with 4 on his head.

In both the DS's these are the ones that have scarred

I posted before I saw your reply fannyannie. Sorry to hear about your DS2.

Mckenzie - with DS1 (who's 6 1/2yrs) some of the first spots had scabbed over by the evening of the day after we'd first noticed them - it took about 4 or 5 days for the last spots to appear, and they all scabbed over pretty quickly too (first noticed the spots Friday afternoon - by the following Friday almost all had scabbed over - he was back at school after just one full week off.

DS2 (3 1/2yrs) got his first few spots on Monday, had a MASSIVE amount come out yesterday and today and as yet only ONE has scabbed over!

The 'average' is 3-5days for all the spots to come out, and then another 3-5 days before they're all scabbed over (so you're usually talking on 'average' 10 days before they're not longer infectious)
