Can't work out if DD has a hearing problem or whether it is 'selective' hearing,!

DD is 3.5, she is bright, articulate, witty, has a wonderful sense of humour - nothing to have ever made me think she has a hearing problem. But the last few weeks - she will ask a question - you answer it - two minutes later she asks the same question! Or I will tell her what we are doing today and two minutes later she will ask what we are doing today! Or I will ask her to do something and she will start to move then stop and look at me and I ask her what I said and she has no idea! Now DS is 8 and his mind is usually on something else so am used to him not concentrating on what I say! But DD seems different in this respect - I can't work out whether she hasn't actully heard me, whether she just wasn't listening or if she is doing it deliberately! Sounds mad I know - but she loves to wind people up - it's her sense of humour! My DH and DM have both noticed it aswell. MY DM is deaf and wears two hearing aids and both her DM abd DF were profoundly deaf - so it is something we have always been conscious of. I have lots of cousins uncles and aunts who are from my DM's family who als have hearing problems. Obvious answer is to take her for a hearing test - do I need to be referrred by GP - or can I go directly to clinic where health visitors are?

Depends on where you live,in our area referals have to go through the gp. Try ringing your surgery and ask the receptionist how its done where you are.
Try whispering heres a fiver/bag of sweets and see if she hears you then!
