How healthy is '3 shakes daily' diet with no additional snacks?

My friend is doing a high protein shake diet but only having 3 protein shakes a day.

She should also be having 2-3 additional healthy snacks a day according to the instructions but she isn't. She's had soup a few times.

She does have a normal Sunday lunch (the only solid food she appears to be eating) and is drinking fruit infused water and fruit teas.

She is losing lots of weight but I don't think it is healthy and feel a bit concerned. She is doing the exercise sessions and has lots of energy.

If she’s Obese or very Overweight it’s fine. These diets are temporary, not a long term fix, and will kickstart weight loss that she can then follow up with real food.

Leave her to it. It is likely not to last.. Reboot with Joe uses health juices etc.... Buying fake food replacements isn't a good idea, we all know this but we also want quick fix.... carry on doing what you are doing an d eating in a healthy manner without processed foods and you will be better off.

Snack companies promote snacks........... I don't believe the calorie allowance anyway. It's inflated in comparison to the amount of movement that most people do.....

It sounds as if she's going to be on this diet long term. She has bought around 20 tubs at 9 or 10 shakes per tub.

She's adding extra health supplements that she used in her smoothies.

She is wanting to go to a size 10 (her pre pregnancy size) and was a size 16/18 - she's down to just over a size 16 now.

The three shakes a day is supposed to be the first week only and then it's 2 shakes plus a healthy meal and healthy snacks. She's been having 3 shakes for nearly 3 weeks now.

Leave it. At a 16/18 she’s got a lot of weight to lose; won’t harm her. Worst case she puts it all back on again when she stops the shakes

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 22/05/2018 11:34

It’s fine, leave her alone.

MyShinyWhiteTeeth · 22/05/2018 11:44

OK. Will do.

She does seem to know what she's doing. The holiday is end of July and she is monitoring her weight loss etc.

The trouble is, if she does it fast she might end up with saggy face and skin and look older, better to do it slowly

There is no substitute for healthy eating.

Quick fix may work in the short term but it has the potential to do more harm than good and is not sustainable.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 22/05/2018 12:33

But that’s not anyone else’s decision. The OP’s friend hasn’t asked for anyone’s opinion.

rainbowdashflip · 22/05/2018 12:44

The OP asked?

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 22/05/2018 12:49

So? It’s none of her business either. What her friend chooses to do is entirely her decision.

rainbowdashflip · 22/05/2018 12:56

Oops. Let's just get Mumsnet closed down. Nothing is anyone's business and conversations unnecessary Hmm

polkasha · 22/05/2018 13:00

Agree it’s her business what she eats. Those shake things are basically sweetened sawdust, butnif that’s what she wants then 🤷‍♀️

SomeKnobend · 22/05/2018 13:00

Absolutely fine. People eat all sorts of shit. It doesn't matter if food is in solid or liquid form, what makes a difference is the nutrients. If she's obese, her diet was much too high in Calories before, so she needs to create a deficit, which is what she's doing. The shakes will have a load of nutrients (minerals, vitamins etc) added and will likely be a lot more balanced in terms of nutrition than a lot of the type of meals she'd have eaten before, but much, much lower in Calories. It might not be ideal in terms of fresh fruit and veg, and long term sustainable eating habits, but it's a short term sacrifice to fix a big threat to her health. You sound judgey and unsupportive. If you don't approve, at least just leave her alone about it. She'll be a lot healthier for it, obesity is pretty bad for you.
