Gimme your 'happy' stories about cystoscopy & urethral dilation, I'm heading in tmrw...

🤭
Cystoscopy and possible urethral dilation tomorrow, trying to avoid internet horror stories. Under general anaesthetic as already have a sore urethra! Having mixed results with estriol cream (highly probable it's all down to hormones/peri-meno as it's all coincided with absent periods and consultant said I probably had an old scarred urethra - I'm 47 for chrissakes 😳).

On the one hand I'm utterly blasé - I've had two hysteroscopies and laparoscopic surgery in the last few years and too many male consultants to count poking and prodding my fanjango. And I quite like anaesthetics.

On the other hand
😭

I had one years ago and waiting on another. It did help at the time, but the urethral stricture (narrowing) has since come back worse and actual 'meatus' is affected too. I was 19 or 20 so much younger than you (now 26). There was a bit of bleeding after but nothing horrific. Nurses made me pee within 2 or 2 hours of getting back - first time is the worst by far. Cystitis +++... told to pour warm salty water on with a sports cap bottle or pee in a lukewarm bath.

By I think day 3 or 4 it was pretty much painless. Helped a bit but now needs repeating urgently so not great!

Thankfully you, will be asleep when the UD & Cystoscopy happens it will only take minutes ,and is only a day case my mum had the same procedure she was fine , once said it wasn't as bad as having her la la waxed

the Anaethetist will give you some pain relief before you wake up ,its not so bad stop worrying

I had both about 4 years ago now. I had had recurrent UTIs for 10 years and in the year before I had the Op -
I was having them back to back with no relief.

I'd had a cystoscope under local anaesthetic which had failed. Cystoscope under general to investigate what the matter was- there they saw the urethra was too small and dilated it.

When I woke, I was a little sore- and it hurt a little to wee. I had to take a couple of days of because of the anaesthetic but the pain went away really quickly. 4 years later- no UTIs since and most of the time I forget it was ever done!

Thankyou everyone! That's reassuring. Sorry that you're suffering again @shouldnthavesaid , I hope second time lucky for you.
Just sitting waiting to see anaesthetist just now - apparently I won't get a bed til just before theatre, I'm quite disappointed!
