Suspected Glandular Fever

I've had a sore throat for 2 weeks, very painful glands on my neck and zero energy. I work full time in a demanding job so have gone into work even though on evenings and weekends I have very little energy. I went to the docs today and she suspects a viral infection and I've got to go back in two days for them to take bloods.
I'll be honest and thought I would be diagnosed with GF as I feel so rotten. Would it be bad for me to self cert for a few days to see if I feel any better with rest?

It's not wrong to take time off if you are sick. It is however a bit of a leap from a sore throat to glandular fever.

When I had glandular fever my glands were actually visible in the mirror they bulged out of my neck so far. I didn't eat for 2 weeks and was using difflam spray to numb my throat enough to swallow pain killers. It can make you throw up as well, honestly if my bed had been more than 2 meters from the bathroom I wouldn't have been able to crawl back to bed. I realise the symptoms are different for everybody but I've also had a lot of viral throat infections and glandular fever was by far the worst and so incredibly extreme symptom wise.

If you are feeling extremely tired and unwell then you ought to take some time off even if it isn't glandular fever. You don't want to give it to your colleagues/clients/customers if it's a virus, and pushing through could make it last longer.

Ahhhhhh. It doesn't sound like GF compared to your experience. I'm going to call in sick today but I think I was hoping for a 'named illness' to call in sick with as feel like a fraud with 'Just' a viral infection!

@ColdFeetAndHotCakes I was the same when I had it, getting out of a chair took me at least 15 minutes. Mine was diagnosed with tonsillitis through a blood test, the problem is the Epstein Barr virus stays in your system and can resurface.

@Madonnasmum take some time off and relax for a bit, sometimes just 24 hours rest can recharge your batteries.

dd has just been diagnosed through a blood test.

I used to suffer with tonsillitis but I can honestly say dds sore throat was the worst thing I've ever seen. She had swollen glands (and I mean every gland in her body) for about 2 weeks then the most horrendous throat which was so painful she would cry in pain swallowing painkillers and she had to just drool as she couldn't swallow. This level of pain went on for 5 solid days. I've never seen anything like it.
