Slapped cheek in pregnancy

Hi mums, I really don’t know what to do. I’m a nanny and one of the children I look after has got slapped cheek from nursery. My boss was the one who told me it can be dangerous during pregnancy and I’m 11 weeks. She knows this as we have a very honest relationship and i suffered a miscarriage of triplets last year. she feels awful that I may have been exposed to it from her son. I’m off work as he has a sibling and worried he may get it and be contagious right now. I went to my midwife on Tuesday, who seemed to have no idea about the risks and just nhs choiced it (which i’d already done) she sent off for my booking bloods to be retested for immunity, but was refused a blood test to see if I’ve actually got slapped cheek. She said the results should be back by Friday or Monday. I called today and they called microbiology who informed them that as it’s for immunity the results will actually take 2 weeks to come back. I have no idea what to do, I told my boss I should know today so she’s waiting to hear from me. It’s so difficult to take time off as a nanny because they personally have to pay someone else to cover. I know they’ll understand but I can’t help but still feel guilty. I feel awful and just want to be back at work. The drs don’t seem to be taking this seriously but looking online a lot of people are taken very seriously. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Hi! First of all if you’re a nanny or work in childcare it’s very likely you’re immune already, so there may not be any need to worry. The immunity bloods generally come back within 2-3 days. After this, if it shows that you are immune you do not need any further testing. If it shows you are not immune, you will need a further test in 4 weeks time which will show whether you did actually come in to contact with parvovirus. If it shows you did and you are not immune you will be referred to fetal medicine for close monitoring of the baby. Xx
