I don't know whether this is something I need to get advice on or not...

I have had bleeding 'cuts' at the side of mouth for about 6 months now. I use medicated Blistex type cream every day but as soon as they are almost healed up, they split again. I have had this for years over the winter months but now I'm getting it all year round. I'm fed up with it - my mouth looks awful and it's sore. Chemist in the winter recommended Blistex which helps a bit but still not healing.

Vitamin/mineral deficiencies maybe? Have you had your b12, iron etc checked recently?

Any other health things going? Any sores inside the mouth, gut issues, any rashes or cystic spots? Could be Coeliac or another digestive tract condition (mouth is one end of the digestive tract!)

*going on

JaneJeffer · 17/05/2018 16:31

B2 (riboflavin) deficiency can cause this.

I had this a few years ago. I read up on it and I found the cure was to apply thrush cream (as it is a fungal thing I think) and take a daily multi vitamin. Good luck, I hope you get sorted.

Bobbybobbins · 17/05/2018 17:00

Thanks so much everyone. I'm going to start with a multivitamin and see if that helps and investigate creams.

You might have angular cheilitis, i used to think I was getting a cold sore but the creams never did anything for me .i have a horrible flare up in November , The best thing I used was lypsyl anasetic cold sore gel ( numbs and drys it ) , however i used that thinking I had a cold sore but I when I realised what I had I used Daktarin and it was gone within a week but even after its heals you must still use it ( own personal experience ) I had it for 5 months ! ,

I get this a lot, I use thrush cream too, though the GP thinks I have oral thrush too so has just given me anti-fungal tablets.

Strongbeatsskinny · 20/05/2018 21:34

Dab with cyder vinegar then use thrush cream do his twice a day until a week after it’s healed up. Throw away anything that you’re using for it.

INeedNewShoes · 20/05/2018 21:37

I used to get this a lot and then realised it always came up when I'd eaten soya. That was over ten years ago and it has never recurred since removing soya from my diet (I'm not saying soya will be causing your issue but it could be a mild food allergy).

SummerDream · 24/05/2018 14:04

go to the cosmetologist for a consultation

GunpowderAndLead · 24/05/2018 14:16

I used to get this whenever I was run down. Got the idea it was b12 deficiency from
Gillian Mckeith's book(!) so used a b12 spray.

When I ran out of spray I thought I'd google and realised anti fungal cream cleared it quickly

Bobbybobbins · 24/05/2018 21:41

I took a tablet for thrush as had one from earlier in the year that I never used and it cleared up the next day. Thanks for the good advice mumsnetters!
