hole in 3 year old's tooth

Hi

My son had a dental checkup last year and all was fine. Now I can see a very small hole in a back tooth and pitting in other teeth - I am gobsmacked as we do regular teeth brushing and not very many sweets at all.

Obviously we need to go to the dentist, and he is already getting anxious. Do dentists fill milk teeth? How do they manage? It used to be done under anaesthetic but not any more.

Any tips/knowledge welcome.

they often do a temp filling, but if the tooth decay isn't likely todamage the second teeth then they may well leave it until it falls out.
They can also detect week enamale and can coat the biting surfaces of teeth with a special protective coating which is what happened to my ds now aged 10
We were told a few things which would/could have helped cause the decay
Early antibiotics, even in pregancy they said!, bottlefeeding anything other than milk or water, even milk past the age of 6mths can dry on teeth and cause decay, if you do not start brushing early enough and the usual suspects, fruit juice, sweets and ta da calpol/sugary meds

One of DS1s front teeth is disgusting, it has a hole in the front and part of the side is eaten away and its grey because it died the third (!) time he fell over/ off something and smacked his mouth. However, his dentist has said there is no point traumatising him by removing it when it should come out by itself. He's had it like this about 18 mths now!! Unless it is causing pain or is likely to effect the development of the adult teeth, they will let it be.

Meysey- my dd has had to have 3 (eek) fillings in molars (milk teeth) she is 5... they do quite shallow fillings- no anaesthetic but she was fine... well was until one fell out and had to go again this morning as she was in a lot of pain.
I was mortified about her having to have the fillings as she doesn't even have many sweet things etc... but dentist thought it may be related to her reflux as a baby- the acid strips the teeth enamel or something.
Anyway good luck!
