Strange patch of skin

Can anyone help?
I have had a huge cystic spot on the side of my nose. It has taken forever to heal. The infection now seems to have gone and the area is flat. The problem is the new skin isn’t growing properly. It is so scaly and dry it just flakes off but is red and sore underneath.
I have tried everything but I cannot get this patch that is about the size of my index finger nail to heal. It is impossible to cover with make up because it looks so scaly. Leaving it alone doesn’t help it just stays dry and scaly with skin hanging off. Gently picking it off makes it feel better initially but leaves it red and a bit sore. The process then begins again.
I have tried sudocreme, Aveeno and other intensive moisturisers but can’t break this cycle.
Any ideas?

You really need to see a Dr to get it properly diagnosed.

From NHS Choices:

See your GP if you have any skin abnormality, such as a lump, ulcer, lesion or skin discolouration that hasn't healed after four weeks. While it's unlikely to be skin cancer, it's best to be sure.

Yes I'd see GP too.

Really? I kind of thought I might be wasting their time!

No Crusoe. Not at all

I'm not suggesting you have skin cancer, by the way (and the vast majority of skin cancers can be successfully treated). It's just that, for symptoms such as yours, skin cancer needs to be considered and, hopefully, ruled out.

It could be papulopustular Rosacea. But definitely see your Gp, I was referred to dermatology. They also noticed a strange crusty lump on my arm too and I was referred under the two week wait, not that they thought it was cancer but they needed to be sure and rule it out. I'd just been ignoring it but the doctors took it very seriously.

I had something similar just inside my nose, it was very painful, came, went, came back. The doctor gave me some cream, it was a form of bacteria, often found in hospitals. I can't for the life of me remember. Strep??? Or something. It went very quickly and never came back!
