WTF? Menopause?

SouthWestmom · 16/05/2018 20:20

So, periods generally three days long, anywhere between 23 - 28 day cycles.

Four kids, no gynae issues.

Aged 45.

Last period started April 8th lasted 15 days now nothing. Like day 39 and nothing.

Is this it? Suddenly descent into menopause?

Typical peri menopause, mine went like that and then decided to become more regular than they had ever been for a year and then they just stopped three years ago.

Rafflesway · 17/05/2018 13:59

Sorry to add, don't get too "excited" noeuf.

I had 2 separate stretches of 11 months between periods, each time thinking it was all over ☹️. Finally, after almost 10 years of issues and still having occasional periods at 56, I bit the bullet and was put on hrt.

I took the "monthly bleed" hrt for the first 3 years when my female GP said, "Surely you must be through it now" and switched me to the "non bleed" version. Delighted to say no issues/bleeds since but my menopause was a complete PITA.

SouthWestmom · 17/05/2018 14:05

Oh noooo! 56!!! I'm done now .

GP has suggested mirena coil but I don't use any chemical contraception so not sure I want to.

God I was hoping this was it.

To be fair neouf I think I was the exception rather than the rule bloody typical but it does happen.

I could have cried on the 2 stretches of 11 months thinking it was finally over then AF arrived ☹️.

Soooo hope you are through it.

neveradullmoment99 · 17/05/2018 14:36

Mine too. Eratic periods since being 45. Missing for weeks/ months. No period since November. Think this is it for me. Im 50. Im quite glad in a way.

neveradullmoment99 · 17/05/2018 14:37

Oh no raffles. 11 monthsShock Hoping its gone. Mine was so heavy and annoying.

SouthWestmom · 17/05/2018 14:41

I suspect this is it and I'm going to be worrying for next five years about sudden AF!

Urgh wish they'd just stop and that's it.

I always had irregular periods, 31-42 days, but the menopause for me did start around age 45. You may still get a period this 'month' around day 42. In order to predict periods after age 45, I used to watch carefully for signs of ovulation (appearance of the egg white mucus) and then a sharp pain in one of my sides lasting a couple of hours. Then period would arrive 14-16 days after that. If you don't have obvious signs of ovulation though you mightn't notice it...

SouthWestmom · 17/05/2018 15:44

Top tip, although slightly ick 😂

So ovulation = period

Okay. Can manage that.

I’m 48, periods have been all over for a year and a half, mine have been more frequent and heavier and longer and at a point I was bleeding more than I wasn’t. I had a period last month, then a few light days around ovulation, then nothing. I’m technically due on now, I’m actually about a week or more late, but not a drop of blood! I have no idea what my body is going to do from one day to the next...

swingofthings · 17/05/2018 16:18

47 had it all since 42. Anything from extra light to extra heavy and from every 2 weeks for a few months to nothing for 5 months to normal to back to two weeks.

It's a pain along with the symptoms that come with it.

neveradullmoment99 · 17/05/2018 16:26

I have had hot flushes but have been taking Asda's menopause tablets and they are more or less gone :) So cheap too. If anyone suffers you should try them.

SouthWestmom · 17/05/2018 17:32

I didn't even know they did menopause tablets ! God the glamour!

No symptoms so far apart from freaky pants area problems. Not sure what I'm looking for though.

Yes. A godsend. I didn't really have any symptoms up until now. The hot flushes are hell.
