Medichecks thyroid testing

I’ve got hypothyroid and have been on levothyroxine for years. The GP refuses to do anything other than TSH testing, and I still feel symptomatic even though they say I’m within the normal range (last tsh was 2). I have read around and know that only doing tsh testing isn’t really enough and I need T3/T4 testing as well, so I’m going to do this privately.

Medichecks seem to offer a few thyroid tests and I don’t know which one I need.

Do I just go for the £39 thyroid check one which does TSH, FT3, FT4?

Or do I need the £59 one which does the above and then also some antibody tests which I have never heard of and total T4?

Does anyone use medichecks and have any advice? Thanks!

I have a hyperactive thyroid so I always have t4 t3 and TSH testing.
You may as well have them all done because antibodies don'thave to be tested often. My consultant told me antibodies determine if your thyroid problem is because of a auto immune disorder like graves in my case. Hope this helped Smile

Also T4 is inactive and T3 is active so your body converts T4 into T3 to use in your cells

I'd say spend the £59. If you can spend a bit more you could go fro teh test that covers all the thyroid tests, plus the co-factors, vitmain B12, folate, ferritin, vitamin D, then you really will have the full picture.

On levothyroxine with a TSH of 2, you're probably under-medicated.

The GP says I am over medicating 🙄

How can you be overmedicating? Although my Gp called the other week, my tsh was 0.6 and feels stable after many years because I'm on a consistent brand of Levo. He pipes up that "I'm tempted to reduce your meds" Hmm I said no the guidelines have changed to lowest range of 0.4 in our area so I'm fine thanks.

I've been overactive so I know precisely how ill you feel when you're overmedicated 🙄

I am meant to be taking 75mcg on one day and 100mcg the next, but I take 100mcg daily as I feel so shit on the alternating dose. But I got told off for that last time, even though my tsh is 2. (I have ignored them and am continuing to take 100 every day)

Get the thyroid check plus ultravit. Cover as many bases as possible. That's what I'm going to order as even an endocrinologist only tested TSH. After years of feeling shit I'm taking matters into my own hands.

And yes, when medicated your TSH should be below 1.

daisychainer · 15/05/2018 22:28

Ok I didn’t think about the vitamins. And also didn’t know that on medication tsh should be below 1. Clearly the GP didn’t know/care about that
