Persistent headaches - automatically think brain tumour

I know the title sounds dramatic! DP has had persistent headaches for a month now, particularly in the morning. He's otherwise healthy and has been making sure his fluid intake is good to rule out dehydration. He went to the GP who couldn't find anything wrong so is sending him for an urgent MRI scan. Obviously he's panicking like mad and I'm trying to reassure him its probably nothing serious. Anyone else suffered with constant headaches and found a cause/anything to help?

I had headaches constantly for weeks, it turned out to be my sinuses! Didn't get to the scan stage of worry though so sorry I can't quite help. Hope he's ok Thanks

Has he had his eyes tested recently?

Not sure if you can also get this with hayfever, timing would match that.

Twitchett22 · 14/05/2018 22:12

catandlemur yes his eyes are all fine, he does have hay-fever though so interesting you should say that

My son suffers from migraines very often. He is very sick with them and lethargic.

I would be more concerned with vomiting and vision disturbances. But it's good that your GP is exploring all options.

It’s much more likely to be sinuses or hay fever than a tumor. I suffer with my sinuses and will have headaches that go on for weeks. Just as well to get it checked though.

otto2011 · 14/05/2018 22:22

Inflamed sinuses from the hayfever will give horrendous headaches usually behind the eyes

Twitchett22 · 14/05/2018 23:19

He doesn't report the pain as sinus type pain but i suppose it makes sense it could be hayfever. Thanks for all the replies, he'll feel better when he's had the scan and then hopefully we can explore other options!

I was convinced mine was something much more sinister and it was just blocked sinuses, steroid nasal spray and antihistamines and I've improved 99%! Has he tried a daily antihistamine?

Ds has had consistent headaches for a while. He's just had an MRI which has come out totally normal.

My DH had headaches for ages, he often woke up with them. Turns out he clenches his teeth tightly at night (I rarely heard grinding). When he started wearing a dental night guard , for dental reasons, his headaches just stopped. Thought it worth a mention as you wrote about morning headaches. My husband's pain would last all day so it really wasn't obvious.

marcopront · 15/05/2018 14:50

Did the GP check his blood pressure? I was having persistent head aches and it was because my blood pressure was high.

Backingvocals · 15/05/2018 19:59

I have been having this exact symptom for months. Headaches on waking that last all day. I had an mri which was clear.

I have come to the conclusion it’s stress and jaw clenching plus low blood sugar.

Hope the mri turns out well for your DP.
