DH heart bypass

My DH has been admitted to London hospital and scheduled for a triple heart bypass on Weds 😢 he went for an angina op on Thurs but was much worse condition and had to stay in our local hospital until a bed available in London. Feeling really shocked and quite terrified about the op on weds but trying to stay positive esp for him as he is very nervous bless him. We expected him to be home Thursday eve and to be much better by now, in fact the total opposite is true and the worst is still yet to come 😢

Flowers what a nasty shock for you all.

My dad had a quadruple bypass over ten years ago now.

It was terrifying at the time. But it's done him the world of good. Your husband is in exactly the right place. They've found out what is wrong and they have a plan to fix it.

The recovery is tough so accept any and all offers of help - cleaning, cooking, help with any pets or children.

Do you have lots of support in real life? I hope London isn't too much of a trek for you Flowers

My paternal.uncle had a quad bypass 20 years ago. He has been well ever since, with a minor heart attack 4 years ago and then an implantable cardiac defibrillator. He was 55 at the time of the quad bypass.

He has had quite a physically active life since the bypass. Keep fit classez, worked as a gardener for a bit, taken apart and put back together whole cars etc. Been on holiday overseas several times. He only rhing that has really changed are his eating and drinking habits. He was never a smoker, just unlucky with genetic hypercholestrolaemia and high BP..

Good luck to your husband. And you.

Thanks to you both for your replies, DH is only 52 and otherwise fit and healthy, we were doing 10-15mile bike rides weekly last year, so I’m hoping this will help his recovery be a good as it can be. The hospital is 80 miles from home so booked to stay there for a week but DH just rang to say they’ve said the op may not be til Friday now and I burst in tears at the uncertainty of it all 😢

Hey I know we probably all sound like smarty pants but honestly they do those ops all the time and they understand everything that goes on with the heart.
My dad had one at 35 and that was 6 years ago and he's been living totally normal since it

My auntie had one 25 years ago and hasn't really looked after herself but she's only just getting angina again.

My dad said the hard things are the chest going clunk a few week after if ur not careful picking stuff up, and ur leg hurts where they got the vein from.

Sounds dead scary but u wouldn't know he had had anything done!

I am sending u wishes of bravery!
