Had 24 hr ecg now blood tests

I’ve not been feeling well, dizzy, faint, passed out twice. Went to GP and she said she was concerned heart rate was high. Resting was 120. She sent me to have an ecg. Resting was still 112 and there was a prolonged qt.

So last week I had a 24 hr ecg and was told results would take at least 10 day but I got a call from reception saying cardiologist wants blood tests done on Tuesday as a result of ecg. Receptionist couldn’t tell me what they were testing for.

Any idea what it could be? I’m petrified as I’m a single parent to 3 young children with little support

How serious could it be? Sorry I know that’s like how long is a piece of string but Tuesday seems ages away.

You have my sympathies; I’m going through something similar now and it’s such a horrible time, all the waiting and not knowing.
At least a cardiologist is involved, you’re in the right hands. I assume they would have you in hospital straight away if anything really bad? Try not to panic (not easy!) rest assured the best people are involved and it will be sorted if needed

The cardiologist will want to consider any condition that could cause a high heart rate, the most obvious one would be hyperthyroid. It makes sense to explore possible condition before considering an issue with the heart muscle.

There are many causes of long QT, some genetic and some acquired (of which some are reversible) which is what they’ll be looking to identify in your blood tests. Can you remember what your QT/QTc Reading was?

Waiting is awful and you have my sympathies, but the right people are on the case. Try to take it easy - I know, easier said than done, the fainting associated with long QT can sometimes be exacerbated by acute stress so the calmer you are the better - is there anyone you could call to come stay with you/give you support and help with the kids for a bit? There’s an app called Calm which is guided meditations and mindful stories, it’s really good at helping relax you, I often use it for stress or if I can’t sleep.

Have some 💐 and a hug.

Thank you all so much. I’m sorry to hear you are in a similar situation jinxedit.

You’re right if it was really bad they wouldn’t wait till Tuesday. I’ll try the calm app. Thanks for the suggestion. I do run around a lot and find it hard to unwind so it may help me to relax a little.

No I don’t really have anyone to help but will try to get the kids to help a little - extra pocket money is always a good incentive 😊.

Thank you for the support I really appreciate it

That’s a shame re. the support but a bit of bribery with the kids will help I’m sure :)

Do keep us posted, and definitely try the Calm app. There also an app called Insight Timer which has loads of meditations on too.
