Restless fecking legs!

Squirrelfruitandnutkin · 11/05/2018 21:03

Aaaarrrrggggggghhhhhh!

Restless legs can fuck right off!

I’ve just started back on Prozac and like last time I’ve got horrible restless legs.

Is there anything I can do at all to sort them out? Before I go mad with twitchiness!

I'm not any help here but you have my absolute sympathy. I can't cope with this at all. It's such a horrible feeling.

Thebluedog · 11/05/2018 21:05

My mum used to take aspirin before bedtime which she said helps loads

DextroDependant · 11/05/2018 21:07

I have had it recently and have found taking an iron supplement helpful. I have been taking spatone.

Peachypeaches · 11/05/2018 21:08

I drink a glass of tonic water (for the quinine), and also run up and down the stairs a few times to “reset” my legs. I find if helps if I sit with them pushing on something too.

Squirrelfruitandnutkin · 11/05/2018 21:16

I’ve had tonic water - no use

Will try some vitamins/ minerals
Aspirin doesn’t agree with me

It’s the worst! :(

Cured mine with horse chestnut tablets.

OhTheTastyNuts · 11/05/2018 21:18

You need ropineral

Maverick66 · 11/05/2018 21:18

Two paracetemol sorts mine.
Also a bar of soap under you mattress at foot of bed. Old wive's tale but I know someone who swears by it.

OhTheTastyNuts · 11/05/2018 21:19

Ropinirole!

Skelacia · 11/05/2018 21:21

DH had terrible rls but about 8 months or so he started taking 2 of these every night. They've really helped him.

Squirrelfruitandnutkin · 11/05/2018 21:21

If it carries on I’ll ask the dr about the ropineral. Although I’m guessing that and Prozac might not make for a good combo?

Mine stopped when I started running. Do you exercise much?

WinterWonders · 11/05/2018 21:23

You have my sympathies, op Flowers. Walking around is the only cure I have yet tried that works for me. I was up until 3am one morning recently with rls, and I was pulling my hair out. I must try iron supplements.

OhTheTastyNuts · 11/05/2018 21:24

I don't know about contraindications - sorry. My husband suffered with rls really badly. Tried tonic water, aspirin, soap under the sheet. The tablets cured him in two nights. He doesn't need to take them any more, but keeps some handy just in case it cones back

Tartyflette · 11/05/2018 21:24

Yes, Ropinirole, from your GP. Works very well for me.
(I've tried everything else including the soap thing. And iron)

Some people do have problems with it, though. For them it does not work so well after a while. But as I said, it works well for me and has done for several years.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 11/05/2018 21:26

I used to do calf raises, or shower my feet with cold water

When those didnt work i just gave up and watched telly til i coukd sleep...sometimes it took hours

I bought some magnesium spray as that's supposed to help and i kid you not...since i bought it, never needed it

Fishcalledlola · 11/05/2018 21:26

Used to stand on a cold floor when I was younger, seemed to help.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 11/05/2018 21:27

Although i am on iron supplements so maybe thats it!!

(Makes more sense than my legs were afraid of the mere threat of magnesium spray)

purpleviolet1 · 11/05/2018 21:28

Foam roller - worked wonders as I rolled the muscles like I was ironing the kinks Grin also take magnesium and iron supplements

Squirrelfruitandnutkin · 11/05/2018 21:29

I’ve had days with plenty of exercise and days with very little and it’s seemed to make no difference to how twitchy I am.

The only saving grace is that it only seems to bother me in the evening so far....

OP posts:
FowlisWester · 11/05/2018 21:34

I put my legs on two hot water bottles filled with cold water.
It started getting it when pregnant and now get it very free evenings... Its a bizarre sensation which I find dh doesn't understand.... as he just says don't move them 🤔

OhTheTastyNuts · 11/05/2018 21:36

Dh was really reluctant to medicate, but is evangelical about Ripinirole now.

OhTheTastyNuts · 11/05/2018 21:38

Wow, I've managed to spell it three different ways so far! Sorry. Fat thumbs!

Waterlemon · 11/05/2018 21:41

Oh my yes!

If I don’t walk enough in the day I get it terribly (eg working from home on pc)
If I go on a really long walk/on feet all day, I get it!
Can’t win! Hmm

I finally went to GP about it and apparently it can be a symptom of anaemia. I wish I had known that earlier! My restless legs started in pregnancy 10 years ago! I was severely aneamic during both pregnancies. I don’t think I had my iron levels checked since then.

So gp sent me for a blood test yesterday. Just waiting for the results.
