dd had something like this last year. She slept a lot, barely ate a thing etc for days. There was a bad flu bug going round (influenza B, I think).

Nurofen and lots of liquids should help. And warm baths.

Hmm

Lots of weird thing going around atm. DS2 is acting very strange just now.

What Mercy said re: ibrufen and calpol, possibly mediced at night time if she becomes stuffy/blocked up/snotty.

Hope she feels better soon.

Does she have all her teeth? DS1 used to get high temps when he cut another tooth - and shivery with them.

How hot is she? Is her temp dropping after medicine?

Ds was feverish like this the other weekend. He never gets a temp with teething and it was really unusual for him. He was sick a couple of times but no other symptoms. I gave him calpol, he slept a lot and it passed quite quickly, got his appetite back the same day too. Previously when ds has been ill I have found ibuprofen better at reducing temperature, but I didn't want to give it to ds this time as I thought it might upset his stomach more.

she has all her teeth i think (apart from the very back ones - when do they come again? cant rmemember)

her temp dropped a bit after calpol

im really annoyed cos ive just dragged her out to collect dd1 from school and i meant to get more calpol while i was out

there are no other cold symptoms at all

This is about the age for the "back teeth"... My DS is 3 (sunday) and he got his a few months before.

hunkermunker · 16/05/2007 12:51

DS1 was sometimes sick if he had ibuprofen on an empty stomach with a temp (he got one with each tooth - usually 40+, sometimes 41+, which was v scary).

I used to make sure he had paracetamol-based pain relief first to bring his temp down a bit, then give ibuprofen after he'd had something to eat, as he didn't usually lose his appetite, despite being massively hot.

Hope she's better soon - it could well be molar-teething as they get them any time from about two.

nailpolish · 16/05/2007 12:53

ahh

ill bet its the teeth then

she is currently munching on a cucumber now th temps come down

thanks ladies

Sounds like it could be.

I used to dutifully take DS1 to the doc every time he had a temp (you know all the books say "if a temp goes over 39, it's Serious And Needs Medical Attention"?) - in case it was his ears, chest, throat, etc - but no, "a healthy boy with a temperature" was always their response - "probably his teeth" - now, that might be a sop to an over-anxious mother, but I doubt it, knowing my GP. There was ALWAYS a new tooth coming each time he had a temp and he still gets hot if he's a tiny bit under the weather - think some children are just prone to temps, like I'm prone to throat infections if I get run down.

im the opposite, i, always saying "ach theres nothing wrong with you"
well i thought that then i touched her and she was burning

stems from being a nurse methinks

Oh, I do the "you're OK, rub it better, there, all done" stuff - but when they've a temp and have vomited and shivered with it, I do get a bit sympathetic
