High grade (severe) dyskaryosis & colposcopy

My first smear has come back as severe dyskaryosis - booked in for a colposcopy next week......nurse has said it’s more Nan likely I’ll need treatment - and probably not a biopsy. However, can I refuse the biopsy and just go for the LLETZ treatment?
The smear test hurt SO much - it was unbearable .... the worst pain I have ever felt and I don’t want to go through a biopsy if they’re going to go ahead and do the LLETZ treatment anyway.
Can you refuse the biopsy? Do I need to make this known on paperwork or anything?

First of all, well done for getting that smear test done, they're really not the nicest of experiences, are they?! I'm sorry the results weren't as hoped for, but caught early, pre-cancerous cells are usually ever so easy to treat.

It may be that they want to remove the nasty cells by biopsy. Sometimes a cone biopsy is performed as a curative procedure, not just for sampling. They'll give you anaesthesia. Please don't refuse the plan they have for you: without meaning to come across as patronising - they're the experts here.

Good luck!

Sorry you're going though this Flowers. It's so worrying isn't it.
To be honest when I was headed for my first colposcopy I got some valium (diazepam) from my gp. It stopped me getting in such a tizz. Maybe get an urgent phone appointment with your gp and ask them to prescribe you a tablet?
If you're really struggling with it, as I did, I also insisted on a general anaesthetic for the LLETZ. My consultant said it wasn't standard practice but would do it as I clearly wasn't able to relax at all.

PPs have given you good advice. However, if you are told you need a biopsy, I really think you should follow medical advice. Tell them how you feel regarding your discomfort.

Thanks everyone :-)

I think if they say they’re gonna do the LLETZ regardless then I’ll refuse the biopsy - I’ve read that it can cause problems later on carrying a child ... and I had loads of problems with going full term with my daughter now so want to limit any future chances of complications with pregnancy.
100% going to call the doctors tomorrow as I’m already taking medication for anxiety so not sure if they can give me anything but it’s worth a call - especially as I’m putting myself off for even going to the appointment ... god is women have it so much worse than men!

Just to update:
Went today; spoke to the doctor who said my smear test hurt because the speculum they used was too big and she asked for an extra small one - so much better! Also, she didn’t take a biopsy she had a look and went straight to a referral for surgery - she said within 2 weeks and I’ll be in - already had my pre-op today so fingers crossed :-)

Glad they're getting you moving through the system (for want of a better word).
Take care of yourself after the LLETZ, IIRC had four days off (pre kids) afterwards to let it settle down and heal up. So even if you don't work out of the home have a lazy couple of days, or as much as you can with your DD anyway.

Thank you! I work part time so I’m going to try and get it done towards the end of the week when I’m off and with a weekend where my dd goes to her dads so I get a few days break :-)
The nurse was amazing so feel a whole lot better about it all

Definately try and tag it onto a weekend. IIRC (and this was 14 years ago) I had some light spotting for a few days afterwards and felt a bit fragile. Was fine mooching around at home but probably would have been far less fine dashing off to work.
