Terrible pic but you get the gist. And the pic is just my arm. I have this all over my body - scalp, legs, torso etc. Literally what you see in the photo is what I currently have all over

Looks like I've massively scratched it doesn't it? I haven't. My t shirt caused this bout just by being on my skin

I've had it for years and for the past year it's been really bad. Two attacks a day. I take a daily anti histamine which dampens it down a bit. It's hot and itchy and then, after half an hour or so it goes away for another day.

Is it hives? I'm not allergic to anything - food doesn't cause it for example or my washing powder etc. It can flare up at any time and it's always every single damn day

I saw a doctor a few years back but they weren't concerned

Will it ever go?!

Do you wear nail varnish? I used to get this wherever I touched myself. It's like a huge over reaction to irritation.

I'd reduce as many allergens as I can, so cut out detergent etc.

Horsedogbird · 05/05/2018 21:03

I have it too. It's uticaria/hives. Mine has flared up today probably because of the weather. Antihistamines can help.

MrsZippyLake · 05/05/2018 21:05

Could you have a histamine intolerance? Sorry I can't do links but google it.

Horsedogbird · 05/05/2018 21:05

It is really annoying. I don't think there's much doctors can do apart from suggest antihistamines.

flumpybear · 05/05/2018 21:06

Have you been scratching? That looks like lines of scratch marks?!

MrsEricBana · 05/05/2018 21:09

I had a friend who had something called dermographia. If he even put his head in his hands while concentrating he'd have marks afterwards. Nothing sinister but could it be that?

baldisbeautiful · 05/05/2018 21:10

Cetrizine is the best antihistamine for this condition (Uticaria) and don't scratch it. We put a cold flannel over the itchy areas when my daughter has an attack.

MrsEricBana · 05/05/2018 21:10

May be dermatographia.

Lucked · 05/05/2018 21:11

It does look like scratches, it looks like demographism

gonnabreakmyrustycage · 05/05/2018 21:12

Hives! You must have touched it without noticing.

picklemepopcorn · 05/05/2018 21:12

I've just looked up some stuff about histamine, and found this. I'm thinking about cutting out some of these foods, as I react to some of them.

Foods to avoid if you have a histamine intolerance
Histamine-Rich Foods
• Fermented alcoholic beverages, especially wine, champagne and beer
• Fermented foods: sauerkraut, vinegar, soy sauce, kefir, yogurt, kombucha
• Vinegar-containing foods: pickles, mayonnaise, olives and vinegars
• Cured meats: bacon, salami, pepperoni, luncheon meats and hot dogs
• Soured foods: sour cream, sour milk, buttermilk, soured bread
• Dried fruit: apricots, prunes, dates, figs, raisins
• Most citrus fruits
• Aged cheese including goat cheese
• Nuts: walnuts, cashews, and peanuts
• Vegetables: avocados, eggplant, spinach, and tomatoes
• Smoked fish and certain species of fish: mackerel, mahi-mahi, tuna, anchovies, sardines
Histamine-Releasing Foods
• Alcohol
• Bananas
• Chocolate
• Cow’s Milk
• Nuts
• Papaya
• Pineapple
• Shellfish
• Strawberries
• Tomatoes
• Wheat Germ
• Many artificial preservatives and dyes

TheBlueDot · 05/05/2018 21:19

Pickle I’ve been getting skin reactions lately and I must eat at meat several of the food on that list each day. Erk.

OP have you tried elimininating any foods in the past?

picklemepopcorn · 05/05/2018 21:33

I found this, which is better I think.
I'm doing a gut repair diet at the moment, trying to increase my microbiome in the hope I'll feel better.

I get this kind of hyper sensitivity at certain times of the month - fine one day not the next and its related to my cycle rather than foods

RolyPolyLilBatFaceGirl · 05/05/2018 22:10

No nail varnish - I have acrylics but it's not that. I get it all over my body

I don't scratch it although I appreciate that that's exactly how it looks. I had a long sleeved top on and today's attack came on.. just my top being on me caused it. My scalp flared up, my arms and torso did and bizarrely, one thigh. Popped an anti histamine and half an hour later I'm normal again. It'll be back tomorrow though. Always is

I wouldn't have a clue where to start with food because nothing triggers it. It doesn't clear up if I'm low carbing, eating a vegan diet or stuffing my face with junk - and I cycle between the above from time to time. I will certainly look at that list though out of interest.

RolyPolyLilBatFaceGirl · 05/05/2018 22:11

I eat a lot of cheese, chocolate, yogurt, berries and nuts.

OP posts:
RolyPolyLilBatFaceGirl · 05/05/2018 22:11

I'll try cetrizine! I usually grab expensive Benadryl

OP posts:
RolyPolyLilBatFaceGirl · 05/05/2018 22:14

It's almost certainly not my environment. I'm not allergic to anything as nothing triggers it. I have attacks every single day and it can happen at home, at work, at night, when shopping. On holiday etc etc. No rhyme or reason. Today I was sat on my sofa and felt my scalp prickle a bit and then felt my arms go. Annoying

Interestingly if I didn't take a tablet it would be gone within the hour but my god- it would be intensely itchy

OP posts:
RolyPolyLilBatFaceGirl · 05/05/2018 22:14

Someone once said to me it was an overactive flare and wheal response

OP posts:
LRL2017 · 05/05/2018 22:16

Mine used to flare like this and was diagnosed as urticaria. It got better eventually and barely have it now. I just took antihistamines

RolyPolyLilBatFaceGirl · 05/05/2018 22:19

LR yeah I'll just have to keep doing that I suppose. Nothing else to do really is there

It's just debilitating sometimes and I grow so tired of people gesturing towards me and saying ' have you been scratching?'

OP posts:
FusionChefGeoff · 05/05/2018 22:21

Mine went when I got pregnant and has never returned.... could try that?!

RolyPolyLilBatFaceGirl · 05/05/2018 22:32

Good god! Nooooo. Two children is quite enough thank you 😂

OP posts:
LRL2017 · 05/05/2018 23:12

Oh yes I hate the have you been scratching! I did have allergy tests and cut out what I was allergic to for a while. I think mine was triggered by stress of my dog being really poorly and then loosing him and getting married. I also agree mine improved masses after having a baby!!!

bloomsburyer · 05/05/2018 23:22

I have dermograhia and it looks EXACTLY the same.
