Hi all

My dd is having tonsils and adenoids removed next week and I'm looking for any info and advice ANYONE can give me.

She is having an afternoon op and staying in hospital overnight we live in the UK, things seem to be done different in the USA

I'm worried about what to expect after the operation, possible problems etc.

Any suggestions of things to feed her. I've been told already by the hospital that she will have to eat toast before they let her come home!

I've heard about things like losing the sense of taste, drinks coming out of the nose when swallowed, being sick etc

I've heard different stories about what days are the worst following surgery.

Anyone who has had a child go through this I would love to hear from and share your experiences - good or bad I want to know as much as possible so I can be prepared for the worst whilst hoping for the best.

Thanx guys x

did ur daughter suffer with swollen glands round the neck?

Hi

My daughter is 8yrs old. She has always had ENT probs. When she was little she seemed to always have an ear infection and had loads of hearing tests and it was suggested she might need grommits. She seemed to grow out of this but then cam ethe tonsilitis, she has huge tonsils and adenoids her consultant advised removing both. Her father suffers from sleep apnea and they believe she might have inherited it as she never sleeps the whole night through always up and down to the loo etc.

She does have swolen glands in her neck but usually only when she has tonsilitis.

I worked on paediatric surgery, and the majority of children are discharged the following day. The best thing you can do for her is keep on top of the pain relief, and encourage her to drink. If she is pain free she will eat , drink, play & sleep!

Keep calm & she will be too. Good luck.

yes my 8 yearold son was the same with ear infections etc although he seems to have outgrown it now, his tonsils are also huge and his adenoids also need attention i think, when he was 3 he woke up one morning with his neck glands REALLY swollen, went to the docs and doc measured the glands and checked for other swollen glands in other areas, he didnt have any thankfully but they gave him antibiotics and the glands responded slightly to the antibiotics, they kept checking him for a couple of months and then sent him to an ENT the ENT wasnt really interested in his glands but more in his tonsils etc, my son is now 8 and his glands are still large, sometimes they go down but any hint of a cold and they are right back up, i was i was wondering if the glands could be connected to the swollen tonsils etc
