Tell NHS surgeon about private appointment?

I've had a first consultation with an NHS surgeon about an operation on my stomach. However there is a new type operation that is not offered anywhere on the NHS (private only), but my surgeon knew nothing about it, and was very dismissive when I asked about it. He gave me a few months to "think" about having this NHS operation, and then come back to him.

So during this time I have paid to have a private consultation with another surgeon to find out more about this new operation that is not available on the NHS.

I still haven't made up my mind what to do yet.

Now is the time to go back to the NHS surgeon for the second appointment to tell him my decision about the NHS operation (this is not a life and death operation, and I could put if off for longer if needed).

Should I tell the NHS surgeon about my private appointment? Or will it annoy him, and make him more likely to dismiss me and questions I have?

You don’t need to if you’re having the nhs treatment though do you? Or if you’re going private just cancel the nhs appointment?

Your post is confusing. You say you haven't yet made up your mind over which operation.

But then you say you are seeing the NHS dr to tell him your decision.

Which is it :)

If you are going privately, cancel the NHS appt so someone else can have it- don't waste his/ her time just to say you are going privately.

No point in seeing the NHS consultant if you've decided to have private operation/ haven't decided yet (and don't have more questions for him). Someone else could have your appointment and really benefit from it. I would also be rather cautious about surgery that an NHS consultant in the same specialty hasn't heard of - why is it not available to NHS patients?

@Walking The OP didn't say her NHS dr hadn'theard of it; she said he was 'dismissive'.

The likelihood is that the funding or training has not been made within the NHS to carry out the procedure.

There are lots and lots of operations or procedures that can be carried out privately due to greater investment in equipment/ technology and training, which aren't available in the NHS.
