Blood test results

I had my first blood test and didn't hear back regarding my results so I gave them a call

  • they were supposed to call me back but for some reason they didn't.

They have told me my blood test is satisfactory but they wanted me to book in a routine appointment to discuss, I found out my white blood cell count is low. They have assured me it's not urgent and just a routine appointment and nothing to worry about and my routine appointment is 8 days away!

Like you do I googled 'low white blood cells' and it's come up with all sorts from HIV to cancer so now I'm dreadfully worried! I went into the doctors on my way home (jus to sign a form so I can make appointments online and view my records) so whilst there I took the opportunity to ask, there was a nurse behind reception and she looked into my results and just said nothing to worry about my white cells are low so it's just a routine appointment! I'm gonna call in the morning to try and get an appointment as I am a worrier and I'm going away for the bank holiday weekend and don't want to spoil it. So if they thought my cell
Count was extremely low or I had any of these diseases google has said I would be asked to come in ASAP?

Just looking for reassurance
Thank you!

@Fairycakes1231 low WBC count can be due to anything, from having a cold/flu, taking antibiotics, being generally run down through to autoimmune disorders, of which there are many.

I’m sure if it were radically low they would be more concerned. Low WBC means low immune system so try to eat healthily, exercise etc to help yourself in the meantime.

One result tbh doesn’t mean much - it’s the trend that counts!
