I get patches like this on my hands every few months. Mostly on my fingers. No idea what causes them or what they are. They are sensitive and a bit sore.

Anybody seen anything like this?

Looks like contact dermatitis.

I thought so too but was told by a OH nurse it could be something else. She wouldn't let on what though so it had me slightly worried!

Looks like something colleague has suffered from for around 18 months and followed pattern of flare ups then settling again. She had allergy tests, medication-steroids, variety of creams none of which worked. She has recently completed a course of UV treatment at a dermatology clinic (nhs) and so far, all clear again and no symptoms at all. Sorry, not sure what the final diagnosis was but mention the UV thi g to your GP?

Hope things get better for you soon.

Does it come up in tiny blisters first then the skin peels off? It could be pompholyx.

duggiehug · 02/05/2018 17:09

Stuntnun it doesn't but I think I've had that before on my foot. I just get these flat red patches that are a bit sore and a bit dry. The one pictured above is actually a bit worse than usual. Never notice anything first, they just appear overnight. I've attached another pic of the last breakout I had.

Washing up liquid (and other cleaning products) are a common cause of dermatitis. Do you wear rubber gloves when washing up or cleaning?

duggiehug · 03/05/2018 19:02

I don't wear rubber gloves but I rarely wash up by hand. Cleaning, perhaps I ought to. I feel it might be due to washing hands with soap though which I am doing a lot at the moment with two sets of nappies to change! So no way around that (maybe change soaps? I use simple at the moment).

I've had something similar a few times. Usually on my thumbs. Never went to the docs with it because each time they've gone if I've slathered the affected area in tea tree oil and put a plaster over the top.

Coconut oil and Aloe Vera is my other go to for anything like this.
