Chicken Pox - wedding in 9 days what are the chances..?

Dp's brother is getting married in 9 days and yesterday dd came down with chicken pox. She is supposed to be the flower girl and dp is best man btw.
Does anyone know 1)what the chances of dp catching it 2) does the amount of spots directly relate to how bad the illness is and 3) how long dd will be contagious after the spots first appear?

Re contagiousness, NHS direct says this:
The chickenpox rash is made up of lots of blisters, which burst and then scab over. The Health Protection Agency recommends that children can return to school or nursery once the blisters have fully crusted over, this usually happens 5-7 days after the first scab appears. After the last scab has burst and crusted, children are no longer considered infectious.

Has your dp had chickenpox before?

if anyone has caught it, it would of happened by now. The infection is before the show of spots.

She maybe ok by the wedding but only if she keeps her hands to herself. The picking is what makes a mess. Keep her comfortable to stop any scratching my giving warm baths with bicarb of soda (around 3 tablespoons) and get the calymine lotion which contains oil so as to not dry her skin out any further and releive the itching.

Good luck

I think she will have been contagious before the spots come out ! However if dp has never had it - he could be infectious at the wedding !!

Spots will take about 2 weeks to clear up unfortuantely - but she will probably feel fine on saturday !

Bit of judicious make-up might help for photos ?

Serioulsy though - dp is the one to worry about as he could infect people ?

I'm not sure how long spots take to come out once infected - a wweek to 10 days I think !

Ah well thats the World Health Organisation for you. Just goes to show you how much conflicting advise you can be fed by professionals eh!

NOOOOOOOOO!
Doesn't sound good for poor dp, he hasn't had it before. Dd ran for a hug when he came in from work last night and he pulled the biggest "scared face" look behind her back. Then he said with a straight face "I think I should probably go and check into a hotel for the week"

ok, dp has now checked into a hotel - no seriously, thanks for your help, although dd has grown about 30 more spots since this morning, in her ears, hair, eyebrows everywhere...
I keep telling dp I can see a spot and he runs upstairs to check lol.

It is very likely that DD will be fine in 9 days. Normally 5-7 days at the most, often less.

DD would have been contagious from about Saturday. Incubation period is 10-14 days, so your DP could (not definitely going to get it though) come out with it within that period, and would also be contagious from about 2 days before the spots came (so 8-12 days from Saturday).

Chances are if your DP is going to get CP this time round he will already be incubatng it.
