Red spot that hasn't healed in over a year

Stupidly I haven't really thought anything of it until now. This morning I looked back on photos and realised just how long I have had it. Doctors booked for Thursday to check it out.
It's a shiny red slightly raised lump on my chest. Doesn't hurt or get inflamed.
I'm worried about, obviously, skin cancer but hoping it's nothing.
Has anyone had anything like this and what was it?

Has it inreased in size? If it hasn't it's probably nothing, but worth getting checked out.

outsetisland · 01/05/2018 15:14

No, it hasn't changed in size from what I can remember or from what I can see on past photos.

Stuck a pin in it!

Jesus! Don't mess with it at all.

outsetisland · 01/05/2018 16:19

Definitely not going to be doing that...

Apologies in advance for all the questions, how red is it, is it painful to touch, is it hard or soft to touch? I had a keloid on my chest which appeared from nowhere, it was raised, pinkish red and hard to touch. The doctors couldn’t say what had caused it. I ended up needing steroid injections in hospitall to remove it ( those were fun!)

outsetisland · 01/05/2018 16:54

WeeMadArthur, it's not painful at all and is bright pinky red like you describe, I've not heard of a keloid before and after giving it a quick google it could be a possibility. Thank you

I was very blasé about a little pimple that appeared on my temple, which never quite went away. Every so often it had a powdery surface, which I'd brush off. Dr sent me to a dermatologist, who removed it and sent it for biopsy. Had to go back in to have a bigger op under general, with a plastic surgeon there as well to sort out the appearance. It was a type of skin cancer that doesn't spread and doesn't metastasise, so once it was removed it was fine. Everyone in my family has very fair skin, so all my aunts and uncles have had similar taken off from foreheads and cheeks and temples.

Wow, what a rambling non-relevant post :(

Quick update. Have been to the doctors. It's a dermatofibroma apparently, which I'll have to google later as appointment lasted less than a minute with the doctor who doesnt like to hang about. So thankfully not anything to worry about but have been told to go back if it changes in any way.

Congrats! Always worth checking weird things out.
