Help - wierdy rash on toddler

Another neurotic worrying post from me about dd2. She's had chicken pox, which turned into a chest infection. She got penicillin which she's never had before and started it on friday.

Last night she came out in hives all over tummy - huge ones that merged to one giant blob. This morning she's covered in a red smooth rash - like parts of her have been dipped in pink paint - she's more pink paint than normal skin - all over her legs, her back and tummy and chest. She wouldn't wake this morning - had to actually get her up at 8 - usually its more like half six - but now she's up she's fine in herself.

Could it be a reaction to the penicillin? Although she did start that 4 days ago. Nothing else out of the ordinary, although she's not been well for ages.

Made an appointment to see dr at 11.

Could be , or could be viral as her resistance may be lowered to further infections.

I react to peniccilin but the reaction comes quickly. Think it is more likely part of the virus but get the DR to check.

She is having an allergic reaction to penicillin - now her eyes and ears have swollen up - and all over her body big lumps and red patches. She's being very brave even though it's itching. Been given piriton and told it could last 3-4 days!

Poor dd2 is having a bad week

Boco - DS did exactly the same when he was about 7 months - in the week leading up to his naming party . Dr said she couldn't be 100% sure that is was penicillin reaction rather than viral rash, but there is some family history of reaction to penicillin so he is deemed to be allergic from now on.

Piriton worked wonders (although he did sleep a lot) - hugs to DD2 and I hope she recovers quickly.

The sleep thing would be great! [hopeful]

At the moment she's on my knee wriggling and grumbling and scratching.

how long has she been on the Piriton? It takes a while to kick in..

A spoonful last night when the rash started, then two so far today. Her poor ears are bright red and her eyelids are so swollen she looks like she's been in a fight!

WAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!

She just woke up from a nap and now her whole face is bright red and swollen! Called nhs direct and they said take her to hospital, but i can't as i have no car - so they said get her to out of hours dr, but can't as have no car!. My dd1 is being taken to gymnastics in an hour by a friend who happens to be a paramedic so i think i'll ask him what i should do when he gets here - she can breathe fine and her lips aren't swelling, so i think nhs direct are being cautious?

Oh gawd, i hate having to trust my own judgement about stuff like this - i have no idea.

Poor LO. Have your friend take a look at her but if you have no transport and are at all worried I would call an ambulance - they would far rather respond to things like that than to drunks falling over...

It sounds nasty. Piriton should have kicked in by now. She needs to see someone ASAP, I would have thought.
