High blood pressure and anaemia

So I went to the docs last week for something completely different and whilst I was there she wanted to check my blood pressure as I am on Hrt. It was high 150/80. Complete shock as never normally that high. I am fit active and normal weight. I eat well and don't drink or smoke. I am very busy though I don't stop from 630 am until 1030pm 7 days a week 365 days a week and I supoise i am quite stressed as I have an autistic son and hubby and not a great relationship and I work and get no help at home so I literally never sit down. Then on wednesday i went to give blood as I have done every 4 months for the last 6 years and I was told my blood levels are way too low and I need to see the GP. Went back to GP today and she is very confused as in have no signs of either anaemia or high blood pressure and I have both. Am having blood tests done next week. If I already maintain a healthy and active lifestyle how else can in get my BP down and my iron up.

You BP isn’t that high and ideally three readings on different days is a better indicator, so I would get that done, were you rushing or stressed that day you went?
Also even very high BP can be symptom less, that’s why it’s important to keep an eye on it.

They will look to see what is causing the anaemia and iron will be prescribed, you say you are on HRT are you peri and still getting periods or post meno?

If you google iron rich foods you can see if you can increase those, red meat is one of the highest ones.

Was your reading high again at the GP then?

Do you suffer from white coat syndrome?

Mine is at the level of hypertensive emergency if I have to take it in medical setting. I have a phobia. At home it's 120-140/80-90 so fine. But I take meds for anxiety which keep it low

If you feel relaxed when having it taken they try a 24 hour monitoring?

There are no signs of high blood pressure that’s what makes it so dangerous. I always had very low blood pressure, so low that I had to mention every time I had BP taken or they’d think their machine was malfunctioning. Went to see the GP about something else when I was 55 (and feeling great) and my BP was 200/140. Bit of a shock. Been on BP tablets ever since. Still feeling fine!

I am 44 and peri menopausal. I have been on Hrt for just over 2 years and no problems. Still not sure if really need to be on it but as my periods were so erratic and I had high fsh levels at such a young age I was advised to go on it to protect my heart and bones. I am not a particularly nervous person but I detest having my blood pressure taken and this time as soon as GP mentioned it I felt my heart start racing. I can give blood, have blood tests and smears with not a flinch or a worry which really does not make sense. I think if it is high again at drs I will seen if I can have a monitor to take it at home.

I have high blood pressure every time it's taken at the doctors. I ended up buying a monitor, which showed it was perfect, every time I took it.

I bet you've got white coat syndrome, mine was even high when it was the nurse taking it!

I 've just downloaded a free app on my phone which says 113/56. Probably not very accurate at all but interesting. May try going to the pharmacy to have it taken next time and see if that makes a difference.
