Does anyone know if these can be taken together as in Calpol then Calprofen 2 hours later? my baby is 5 months old and in agony with his teeth

One is ibuprofen and the other paracetamol. As far as I know it's OK - not 100% at that age though.

munz · 14/05/2007 18:32

wouldn't together at that age. try the profen one first and use gel. failing that when J was really bad on a night with teeth we used baby neuofen. can be used from 3 months

donnie · 14/05/2007 18:32

i THINK THE ADVICE IS TWO HOURS APART. oops excuse caps.

MerryMarigold · 14/05/2007 18:34

we did it alternately 4 hours apart as you can only have a certain number of doses per day and every 2 hours will end up too many if you are going thru the night as well (which is likely, I'm afraid). we used it to bring down raging temp though and always wore off after 3 hrs so last hr was a big pain.

choccybickie · 14/05/2007 18:37

I've been doing calpol thru the day then calprofen at night to try and help him sleep bless him its so horrible when u cant do anything for them. He just eats the gel so I tried a liquid teething product but it makes him wretch

iirc - you can add the gel on quite often. have you tried the ashton powders? - they're ment to be good but didn't agree with J - v explosive nappies! anyhow one mum at coffee pot suggewsted medsave (I think it is) to me for teething recons it's brilliant for before bedtime - would talk to a pharmasist before using it thou/giving it to a LO alongside calpol.

munz · 14/05/2007 18:43

best thing thou sometimes is lots of cuddles and patience - I know that's hard sometimes thou

choccybickie · 14/05/2007 18:48

yea a cuddle whilst pacing the floor is pretty much the only thing that works he wont even take his dummy for comfort it must hurt his gums poor thing

choccybickie · 14/05/2007 18:51

Not sure with babies but junior ibroprufen should be 3 doses a day (about every 8 hours) and calpol is every 4 hours. These were the timings we were given in A&E The reason for taking them at different times is so that they don't wear off together.

munz · 14/05/2007 19:02

we've all been there chick, don't feel bad it's unfortunatly one of those things babies have to do no matter how much we want to help/soothe them. I find J's particaully bad when it's actually cutting thru - lots of cuddles/screams constant then for half an hour or so then he settles.

frozen bananas!!

You cut them into chunks and freeze overnight - or cut into long strips. They are FAB for teething pain as they just go into moosh as they melt but are really soothing.

We did the alternating calopl/ibuprofen. Just check carefully you dont have the same thing twice with different names e'g calprofen/nurofen are the same.
