I've been feeling very low, no energy, can't lose weight.
At 47 I thought I was approaching menapause.
GP has run some bloods and said my oestrogen levels are normal.

My T3 levels are low at 3.18
This normally means underactive thyroid.
But my TSH level is 0.02.
For underactive thyroid the TSH should be high.
GP has sent me for further bloods. Dr google isn't helping.
Has anybody got and advice/ experience of this?

Have a look at secondary hypothyroidism where you get low TSH and also low FT4 and FT3. It's more common than you think and often misdiagnosed.

Thank you timeistight
Does this mean I could have a problem with my pitituary gland?
I've had a look online and can't seem to find any answers.
GP has run further test, blood count,;liver function.
I just want to be armed with enough info when I see her next week.
Also don't want to be fobbed off. She seemed to think that I could have had a virus when TSH was tested. Although I felt fine.

I would also ask for a thyroid antibody test.

It took a long while to be diagnosed as my TSH was in range.

SluttyButty · 27/04/2018 14:41

I'm sure that means your pituitary gland is not working properly.
Is your Gp going to refer you to an endo?

MaisieDuke · 27/04/2018 14:59

I don't know yet SluttyButty
When I went for my results she just said that they weren't normal and sent me for more blood tests.
Appointment is next week.
Should I ask for a referral?
Fed up of feeling so exhausted all the time Sad

My appointment is on Wednesday & I phoned to check my bloods had come back.
All the other tests, blood count, liver function and she said thyroid test are all normal.
Dies anyone know if I should be worried about the TSH and T3 levels?
Not sure what I should be asking the doctor.

You have a TSH of 0.02 and an FT3 of 3.18 and symptoms of hypothyroidism.

Do not let your GP tell you that you are fine, although I would have thought that he is unlikely to do so because your TSH is almost certainly below the reference range.

Ask him about secondary hypothyroidism (do some reading yourself first). If that is suspected, the guidelines say immediate referral to an endocrinologist. Ask for this.

So quick update
Gp app today.
My tsh is 1.3 ???
He said my original results 0.02 indicate overactive thyroid as my t4 was fine? ?
Obviously this is not right as I'm showing signs as underactive.
GP said one of the results must be wrong. So I have to have more bloods.
Anyone ??
