Can you get single vacines for 8 week immunisations?

Further to the news story, I do not want my son having the 8 week jabs he is due this week. However, I do want him immunised. Is it possible to pay privately and get single jabs?

Hi IlanaK. If your concern is about the mercury preservative you can request DTaP (Infanrix) which is the triple primary jab which doesn't contain the mercury preservative, but vaccinates against all three diseases in one go (over three courses). It's DTwP (Behring) or DTwP-Hib (Act-Hib DTP) which are routinely given at 2,3,4 months old which contain the mercury preservative. HTH. There are lots of threads on this if you do a search.

Sorry, forgot to say Infanrix is available over the NHS, but you might have to convince your surgery to issue it. It can be done, but more often than not, on MN, people have found it a difficult job!

I went to the GP for the postnatal check today and asked about the Infranix. She refused to give it and tried to convince me that the current jab was ok even in light of the news stories. She said that it is a minute amount of mercury and there is probably as much in his bath water. I told her I would go privately, but I have no idea where to go now. I asked the receptionist for a list of local private GPs but she refused. ANy ideas where to turn now?

IlanaK- do you have any autoimmunity in your family? The recent research referred to has shown that if you inject mice with a predisposition to autoimmunity with thimerosil or thimerosil + vacc then they develop the mouse equivalent of autism. Maybe you could show your GP the paper? If you contact me offlist I can email you the paper.

My eldest son is autistic btw- and we believe his first hit was from thimerosil. My second son is unvaccinated.

You used to be able to get single tetanus or a DT but heard today the under 10 version was apparently withdrawn without consultation a few months ago.

Your safest bet would be the DTaP= twiglett wrote a great letter to her GP.

There's a tiny chance that some stocks of DT may still be available. Ds1 had DT instead of DTP for the 3rd set of immunisations. When I took him today for his pre-school imms I was told that DT had been withdrawn for children. When the HV realised that ds1 couldn't have DTP (rather than it being our choice) she made some enquiries. There is apparently a small quantity still available but it has to be used by the end of this month, so ds1 will be having the DT next week.

Ilana - it might be worth fighting with your GP to get Infanrix, Twiglett and GeorginaA both succeeded, I failed (although I didn't try tht hard) I went private with Dr Kelly on London Wall (5 mins from Liverpool Streeet Station are you based near London?
Alternatively, just delay the jabs until your GP has the new mercury free 5 in 1

Thanks all - I have written a letter to the GP so we will see what happens now. I am in London so I could get to Liverpool St, but I object to paying for something that I should be able to get on the NHS!
