have had raised ast and alt in a routine blood test.
liver function test was repeated a months later and the levels are even higher.

sooo, as I don't drink, healthy bmi and don't have hepatitis, dr said it must be nash. told me to go on a very low fat diet for 3 months and then repeat the blood test.

anyone else? did it resolve?

Intermittent fasting works really well to reduce a fatty liver. Read Jason Fung books on fasting/diabetes to understand the mechanism behind the theories. Eating fat does not cause a fatty liver, but eating carbs does. Also sweetners apart from Stevia affect the body in the same way as sugars so avoid them totally.
The 16/8 or 5/2 diet work really well and are forms of intermittent fasting. It might be well worth watching Michael Mosleys Horizon programme from 2012 about fasting currently on iplayer. Also Jason fung’s You tube videos.

Avoid glucose-fructose syrups and added fructose like the plague. It’s everywhere - cheaper jams and cakes.

started today by just measuring out portions.
it's quite enlightening, especially with cereals (porridge is mine of choice)

Shocking, isn't it? I need to start doing that again.

Good luck 🤞

How are you getting on now BlueRunningShoes?

I was diagnosed with fatty liver a while ago. I don't drink very often at all, maybe twice a month and I thought my diet was pretty healthy, I'm basically a gluten-avoiding vegan (been veggie for 30+ years, but have worked out from a very long-winded exclusion diet that gluten and dairy upset my stomach), but I'm wondering if my reliance on carbs, is the problem. My BMI is 20.8, so I'm not overweight and I exercise 5/6 times a week. As I sit here, I have discomfort in my liver area, which I would expect if I had drunk alcohol in the last couple of days, but I haven't had a drink for over a week. I'm fed up. I have just made another appointment with my GP, who is lovely and understanding, but doesn't have anything to suggest. He said I really didn't need to worry unless I was getting pain in the area as that points to NASH, but that was why I went in in the first place!

op here.
after 3 months of low fat, low refined carbs (but by no means no carb) and 5:2 fasting, my liver blood test came back fine.
I didn't lose weight, but lost a few inches of my waist.

That's amazing bluerunningshoes. I am going to try to do the same. Thank you!
