Questions to ask your doctor

You may think that this is fantasy, since you have a terrible painful illness, but this information has helped a number of women

What if your Endometriosis is caused - or made worse - by things that you eat, or don't eat ?

Here are some questions to ask your doctors about Endometriosis:

  • What causes it ?
  • How will looking at it and scraping it help me get better ?
  • How can I stop it recurring ?
  • Do I have too much Estrogen in my body ?
  • Could my illness be caused by things that I eat, or don't eat ?
  • What can I change about my diet and lifestyle to help my body repair itself ?

These are easy questions to ask, but very difficult for doctors to answer as they know very little about Nutrition.
It may be worth asking them to refer you to a Dietitian or a Nutritional Therapist, as they specialise in Nutrition.
If your doctor won't do this, try a search for BANT or Nutritional Therapist and interview 10 of them to find 1 who has had success advising about Endometriosis

Search online for "anti-inflammatory diet"
Here is an example: Anti Inflammation Food Guide

This and the suggestions below may help to reduce the pain

Here are 3 well-proven natural ways to reduce the Inflammation that causes the pain of Endometriosis

  • Increase your Vitamin D
  • Increase your Omega-3
  • Reduce your Omega-6

Here are some relevant references that may be useful to you:

Some people have reported that eating specific foods like meat or dairy gives them an instant flare-up
You may find that keeping a Food Diary may help you find out which foods make your Endometriosis worse and which may help

The first thing you need to do is find a really good gyres, one that specialises in endometriosis. Then you can work together to come up with a 'treatment' plan. Have they specified a stage for your endometriosis?

Have you had an ablation? I had one at the same time as my laparoscopy to diagnose it, and it did make a world of difference for a short while. I recently had DS, and now I've been referred to have a progesterone only coil which should hopefully help slow, or stem the growth.

There's been a lot of evidence that diet can play a huge part, so that's also worth researching.

Oh. And if ANY doctor tells you to have a baby because it'll cure it, walk out. It's complete bollocks.

You need to see a gynaecologist and one who has a specialist interest in endometriosis (ask them outright how much experience they have had in treating women with endometriosis). The standard ob/gyn here is not going to cut it.

I found personally that diet or taking supplements made no difference to my endometriosis. Surgical intervention in the form of a laparoscopy to remove the endo deposits was more helpful.

It mainly depends on your diseases conditions,if you are in the endometriosis stage 1-2,then Hormonal therapy ,painkiller will help you. But if you with severe endometriosis, then you can take surgery or endometriosis herbal treatment into account. But surgery usually the last options,so maybe the natural home remedies by herbs will be a great choice for you. Currently, the proved and well-known patent endometriosis herbal medicine is fuyan pill, which can help regulate blood to alleviate pain, clear away heat and reduce fire to clear implants naturally without any side effects.

The only treatment that can give you a chance of a long term cure is excision surgery. There are very few gynaecologists that offer this in the U.K. although numbers are increasing all the time. Hormone treatments are an option but they merely suppress the endo, they don’t actually treat it. Good nutrition may help symptoms but again don’t treat the endo. It is a disease that will require you to get fully informed about the best treatments and fight for those. I had excision surgery after many years of failed hormone therapy. I had very severe disease and am still endo free ten years later.

Sorry. Missed the fact you are in New York. Please join the Nancy’s Nook Facebook page - it will give you recommendations for doctors to see and enable you to fully inform yourself.
