My gingivitis will not go away - anyone have any solutions?

My gums were absolutely fine until I fell pregnant with DS2 in 2016. I started getting gingivitis flares throughout the pregnancy and we thought they’d sort themselves out once the pregnancy hormones had settled. Nope, no such luck.

I see a hygienist every four months. I floss every day, use a Waterpik and corsodyl mouthwash solution, I use a toothpaste specially formulated for gum issues abd have given up sugar and yet they still cause me problems!!

They can be absolutely fine then I’ll look in the mirror and see the gums look inflamed around my top teeth (this is the main problem area). I’ll then use my Waterpik and give them a thorough clean and there’s loads of blood. It’s so frustrating.

The only thing I think that’s left is to get referred on so they can do a thorough clean for gum disease. There are no pockets so they don’t call it gum disease, I just get told I’m not cleaning them well enough. Thing is I know I am 😷

I would stop with the Corsodyl (and all mouthwashes) for a while. I have recurring gum issues and mouthwashes can actually make them much worse - they can kill the bacteria you actually need to have kicking around. And I've found Corsodyl is especially bad for that.

I have had exactly the same problem. I was using tepe brushes twice a day and corsodyl and still have red inflamed gums. This started about three years ago.

Just saw the periodontist who has first of all sent me to his dental hygienist. My hygienist had been doing a clean but this gum specialist one was so much better - got rid of loads of scale which harbours bacteria. Hygienist also told me to ditch corsodyl as the previous poster said. Too harsh, kills good bacteria, can encourage thrush. She also told me to take one dose of something like canestan in case thrush has taken hold as well.

She’s asked me to replace my tepe brushes with thicker ones called piksters (amazon) and tbh they are better. The tepe brushes were too fine.

I also have to use normal floss between some teeth as well.

I’m going back this week to show what progress I’ve made. I think the answer is some but they are still not how they used to be.

So then the periodontist will see me again and if there’s still some room for improvement t despite trying all these things he’ll look at doing bloods. He thinks there may also be an underlying hormonal cause - this started for me about when I went on the Mirena Coil so that could be relevant. Or vitamin deficiencies.

Female hormones are such a pita!

Yeah I suspect there’s more to it. I’ve read really good things about high dose vit c so I think I’m going to give this a try. It’s so depressing when you’re trying to do everything right abd it’s still not working.
