My ongoing saga with my blocked deaf ear

Hi

I posted a couple of weeks ago.

I have a blocked ear which has been made worse by using drops.

Went to get it syringed - unsuccessful. Ear canal is narrow and the wax has been pushed right down.

Was told to continue with olive oil and come back.

It's been a month now and I can''t bear it anymore.

Im now completely deaf in that ear. My son also managed to pour the whole bottle of oil over me too Grin

Im worried that syringing will be unsuccessful again.

Im thinking about going to a private clinic to get it sucked out.

Has anyone had this done?

OP - How did the microsuction go? Interested in how effective it was & where did you go. Was it expensive?

bluerunningshoes · 25/04/2018 09:19

dh paid 60£ (a few years ago)
but in addition to the suction a hcp had a good look to see if the issue really is 'gunk' or if a referral for further investigation is needed.

Nomad86 · 25/04/2018 16:12

Read the classics thread about microsuction, it's brilliant

viiswi · 25/04/2018 16:37

Oh yes I think I have.

Wasn't it a bit 50 Shades of Grey?

I won't be able to get that out of my head while having it done Wink Wink

I just went into Classics and scrolled through Smile

viiswi · 27/04/2018 12:15

Luckily it was only a few pages back, otherwise I would probably have given up looking.

It was well worth the search though!

viiswi · 28/04/2018 18:50

Hello

Well, I must say, I had my ear done and it was nothing like the Classic post.

It was all over in 30 seconds. Didn't hurt at all and would thoroughly recommend it.

Hooray! Feel better?

viiswi · 28/04/2018 22:46

Hi

Yes it's amazing to hear in stereo again!

Ill never take it for granted again.

It's wonderful isn't it. The lovely nurse who did mine fitted me in as we set off on holiday, just couldnt bear it for a moment longer! The relief is instant. I'd never have mine syringed, much prefer the idea of suction so they can see exactly what they are doing.

viiswi · 28/04/2018 23:14

@Follyfoot

Most definitely!

I even took a photo!

Glad it went wellSmile

Are you okay to drive or go to work after or do you feel a bit dizzy?

LolitaLempicka · 28/04/2018 23:55

You can’t say you took a photo and then not post it OP......

viiswi · 29/04/2018 11:23

Hi

I felt absolutely fine afterwards. It was a bit weird being able to hear in stereo, my voice sounded weird but it soon went.

No dizziness at all.

I really thought there would be more wax, maybe church candle size, she said her machine had sucked half up. DO people really want to see a photo?

There was half a cotton bud that came out of the other ear Blush

Im going back in a year to have them done again.

Well I know this isn’t sporner’s corner, but the sporners will come 😂
Half a cotton bud? Oh my days.

BakedBeans47 · 29/04/2018 20:09

How do you find somewhere that does this? I am suffering just now, I have very narrow ear canals and years of headset wearing at work haven’t helped.

Babydontcry · 29/04/2018 20:12

Microsunction- I had exactly the same problem and was referred on by my GP

dontticklethetoad · 29/04/2018 20:17

Well? Are you going to post a pic Grin

Scrumptiousbears · 29/04/2018 20:22

I really want to be able to do this for a living. Must be so satisfying.

Pic please

viiswi · 29/04/2018 20:39

Marvellous Smile

@BakedBeans47

I googled and found an audiologist who has great reviews!

She does this as well as a host of other things like balance tests etc.

She was fab!
