Rash & huge ?spot/bite on ds - anyone willing to risk a look?

I've put some pics of ds1 age 13 on my profile. The big spot/bite is pus filled and has a smaller rash covering his skin about 1 inch around it. There's another smaller pus filled spot near his armpit and a flat rash on his shoulder. Any ideas? TIA

It's molluscum contagiosm.
Ds's have it at the moment.
Bit like impetigo.
There is a lot of info on the NHS website.

Thanks, I'll have a look for info.

A tick bite?

Jomist · 13/05/2007 21:10

Devious Daffodil - I've had a look at pics online and read nhs website. The huge spot doesn't look like the pics online though the small one does look a bit like the molluscum pics.

Bobsmum - there's no tick there. Is that what it would look like if it fell off?

Hmmm.
Does he get eczma?
DS1 had a bit of eczma at teh same time.
Also some of the larger molloscum were quite scabby.

Jomist · 13/05/2007 21:14

No, in fact he's the healthiest child I know. If it's still there in the morning I'll take him to the GP - ds2 is on immunosuppressants so I should get it checked out.

try these may help

DeviousDaffodil · 13/05/2007 21:18

Best had as mollluscum is contagious. Spread by skin to skin contact.
( iam no expert but trawled everywhere to find what was up with dS's!)

LIZS · 13/05/2007 21:20

Small one definitely molluscum and perhaps he has scratched the other one or it may be about to burst ? Viral, rather like warts, but not contagious.

Jomist · 13/05/2007 21:22

It's similar to pic 10 - I'll reassess in the morning. Thank you for your help.

It's molluscum contagium. Not a serious problem but he proabably will get more - they come and go for a ridiculously long time - sometimes a year or more. You have to watch them for infection - if they get very inflamed, bathe them in water as hot as he can bear and get some betnovate ointment from the doctor. The uninfected ones just sit there, and eventually go away. Sometimes they bleed copiously before they vanish. They don't seem to leave scars. My dd had lots around the backs of her knees, but ds didn't get them - I was very careful about towels and things, but I think the "contagioum" thing means that the person whose got them will probably get more, not that they are very easily passed on to others. There's lots of websites if you google it - but the important thing to remember is that they go away by themselves, you don't need to do anything!

It was even bigger this morning so I took him to the dr and it's infected molluscum so they put him on penicillin.
