5 month old baby sleeping on stomach

Sorry if this is not the correct topic to post this under. My (very nearly) 5 month old baby has finally mastered the art of rolling over and keeps rolling over onto his stomach during the night. The past few nights we have been turning him over again but this wakes him up and starts the whole screaming until he finally manages to fall asleep cycle again (he's not a good baby to get to sleep at night). I know this doesn't matter one he can roll back in his sleep but I'm not 100% confident he can so my question is should I keep rolling him back over and waking him up 'just in case' or can I confidently leave him? Is 5 months a bit young for him to be sleeping in his belly?

ds1 slept on his front from birth. it was the only way he would sleep.

once the baby can roll, i believe the guidlines say, and im sure i will be corrected, it is fine if they roll to their fronts and sleep this way. unless you are going to stay awake all night and keep turning them back, there is not much that can be done.
like many of us, babies find sleeping ontheir fronts comforting.

dd2 was a front sleeper as soon as she learnt to roll over, still is! I just pop in and check her during the evening, and when I go to bed, as previously said, there's not much you can do about it.

AS soon as our DD could roll over at about the same age she slept on her front and has been fine, I think that's the way she likes to slepp as she has done it every night since and is now 16 months

Yeah I thought so but will probably lie awake listening to the baby monitor to hear his breathing! Most of the time he gets onto his belly he wakes up and starts screaming for us to turn him over. I think his problem is he likes to sleep on his side and gravity takes him one way or the other!

My paediatrician told me that once dd turned over that I should just leave her. I did look in on her a few times to begin with and sometimes turned her onto her back, but felt horrible if I wakened her just so I could sleep better!

If he likes to sleep on his side though, you could put a rolled up towel under his tummy to keep him there. We did that for a while to stop dd getting too a flat head.

Agree with all these - my DS learnt to roll onto his stomach at 4 months and from then on, used to do it in his sleep. Had exactly the same concerns as you but was told on MN and by the HV that it is ok if they are getting themselves into that position.

6 months later, it still seems to be his preferred position to sleep in. Bit scary at first but now I don't even think about it

Thanks everyone! .

Didn't want to sound like a neurotic mum. LOL! (Then again aren't we all maybe a tad neurotic at times )

You'ld never guess this wasn't my first baby but 3 years seems like soooooooo long ago!
