y um has been of colour for over a week, she thought she had flu, her Dr gave her some antibiotics but they did no good,
My sister just called and said she has taken mum to the hospital and they have admitted her they think there is something wrong with her liver, and ask her how much she drinks, mum told them she does not drink so they took my sister aside and ask her was mum in denial of having a drink problem.... my mum is tea total and i have never known her have a drink in the 35 years I have been her daughter.
Sis told them mum does not drink, but they seem to think something is very wrong with her liver .

DH1 is away this weekend and although I
have the car am a learner so can not drive it without DP with me, and that would mean having to take the children with me to go to the hospital.

I am really worried

at least she is comfortable. Perhaps the hospital has a password system in place? Your mum decides the password & then you say it when you call & the nurses can tell you more.

kimi · 13/05/2007 19:42

Sis called and said they are doing more blood tests, giving her insulin, doing more test on her liver and got her on broad spectrum antibiotics!!!!!!!!!!

Even if DH1 gets home in the next hour I will not be able to get in to see her as they will not let you in after 9.00pm

noddyholder · 13/05/2007 19:46

I hope things get sorted.has she been on any medication as a lot of meds temporarily alter liver function I have been admitted a few times with raised blood level relating to liver and it has always been related to some drug or other I have been on for something else.HTH

kimi · 13/05/2007 19:51

noddy she has been on amatriptilyn and larozapan think I have spelt them both wrong by the way, for 27 years.

noddyholder · 13/05/2007 19:56

Amitryptiline has toxic effects on the liver if used for a long time but they are reversible if the tablet is stopped.Make sure they check this xx

sulkysuzie · 13/05/2007 19:57

You poor thing. I'm sure that your mom will understand why you can't be there.

kimi · 13/05/2007 20:06

Thanks noddy, I will speak to the Drs as soon as I can get there, and thank you everyone else for all the good wishes.

my dad had a heart attack 6weeks after dd2 was born and although i wanted to drop everything and go I was stuck for childcare etc like you and felt frustrated - but my brother went straight to hospital and kept me in touch and tbh there was nothing helpful anyone could do , he was in hospital and getting treatment. it was also pointed out that dp didn't need the additional woryy of me travelling ( about 5 hr journey) alone nor leaving dd2 so early etc. just stay in touch with your sister, your mum will be more worried about you leaving your dc than not having you there - i know its hard as you want to be there but while she's in hospital you can't do much, you can call her ( be warned its costs a fortue) and then when she comes out that will be a good time to go and you'll have more time to sort things out for that. anyway Good luck, i do feel for you, stick in there girl (((big hugs)))

clutteredup · 13/05/2007 20:14

ask your sister to find out how you can speak to your mum direct - sorry just read rest of thread- the nurses can only say she's comforatble until the doctors have done their rounds you need to talk to your mum or sis for more details if they have them - its sunday so you probably won't get much info till tomorrow when they do ward rounds - i know its ridiculous they appear to work to a 5 day week - how inconvenient that people get sick at the w/e!

xigris · 13/05/2007 20:24

You poor thing Kim, what a horrid situation for you. Obviously hospitals have to be careful about confidentiality etc but the fact you can't be there is quite a common situation. You can call the ward, get your sis to confirm who you are than have one of the docs/ a senior nurse to to you and bring you up to date. It might help to write down any questions you have first as your mind can go blank in these situations. Good luck!

DANCESwithnewlytannedlegs · 14/05/2007 16:24

How are things today Kimi?

kimi · 14/05/2007 20:59

DH1 took me to the hospital today,
Mum is being given antibiotics and they seem to be working, her blood sugar is still going haywire and they think that is what has effected her liver.
She is being given insulin and they are trying to get her blood suger to a reasonable level.

I could only stay for an hour and a half as I had the children with me, but my sister took them to the cafe while DH1 and I saw mum, (hence DS2 being told off at beavers as aunty had let him have cake and fizzy drink so he was all sugared up).

Mum is not happy at all about being in hospital and is saying that she is fine its just the flu and she wants to come home.
It is a lot of stress for my poor sister and I feel so guilty.
Mum still insists she can not eat proper food as it makes her feel ill, um no mum the fact you thing cookies are a breakfast food is what is making you ill.

I will ring the hospital first thing tomorrow and see how she is.
She did laugh that DH1 wrote in side the card he got her, don't die I can't afford the flowers , but he told her that he had now seen the price of hospital parking and was in two minds as to what would be cheaper.

DP has pissed off to the pub with his mate so when I really need a hug I can't have one (DH1 did give me a hug and say it will all be ok before he went home, forgot how nice he smells )

Will let you know how mum is doing tomorrow, thank you all for the good wishes and kind words. xx

Mum is still on the insulin push pump, and the antibiotics seem to be working
She will be in for a few days yet though.

I have been unable to get there today, but Anorak is going to see her tonight.

DP is not used to being part of a family and I don't think he means to be selfish he just does not think.
I was really upset that he went out but more cross he left the front door open all night when he got home.
