Breast dimple - advice needed

Chapterandverse · 19/04/2018 10:31

First of all, I will make a doctors appointment.

But, my period is due tomorrow and I know changes in the breast occur around this time. I don't want to go to doctor in a panic if it's all part of those monthly changes.

Will I wait and see if the dimpling is still there after my period?

I am 40, would have lumpy tissue anyway but this is first dimpling I've seen.

About 6 weeks ago I thought the top of my left breast looked dimpled and a bit different from the right, but left it to be sure. My mother has had a dip in Alzheimer's lately so our concentration has been on her.

So as not to drip feed (and am afraid of being outed) a sibling recently passed away from cancer (started in breast) and a second sibling has recently had pre-cancerous tissue removed from her breast too. So Yes, I know how important it is, I am terrified and just don't know whether I should make an appt for as soon as I can or when my period has gone away.

Any advice?

If breast dimpling isn't normal for you before your period, then I wouldn't wait to see if it goes away.

I’d make it for asap, there is no benefit in waiting.

Appt for as soon as you can. Dimpling is a sign you don’t ignore. You won’t have any peace of mind if it does or doesn’t go after your period.
Get seen, get checked. It’s possible GP will give you a two week referral - don’t oanic, most of those turn out to be benign.
DO mention the family cancer connection.

I had this- it turned out to be cysts, luckily. But I went to the gp straight away and it was take very seriously. I had an appointment at the hospital within two weeks.

Thank you.

My sisters attended the same clinic as me so our doctor will be aware of th3 connection.

I am in work this morning so when I get a break I will ring.
Thanks all.

GP here, don’t wait, call and make an appointment now. We sometimes recommend waiting until after period but only in much younger women. Good luck Flowers

Don't wait. You know it's there, you will be worrying about it regardless so what's the point in delaying it?

And yes, mention your family history.

And yes, you will probably get a hospital referral or at least I did when I found a lump in one breast in my late 20s. That came as a huge shock, I just thought the GP would dismiss it as something or other but I had to see a specialist to make sure and that's with zero history of breast cancer in my family.

Just got my lunch break and rang - I forgot Thursday is their half day. I'll call first thing tomorrow.

I really appreciate the support - given what my family has been through recently I don't want to worry them. Normally my sisters would be my first port of call.

I had my appointment today.

Doctor could feel nothing untoward but has referred me to our breast clinic for a check and a mammogram, given the family history.
