Laxatives

Really sorry I have to post this, but does anyone have any advice on the best ones?

All I seem to be able to get in shops is senna tablets which just don't seem to do much unfortunately. I have seen ex lax on eBay but they are so expensive!

Shops seem to have stopped selling exlax and the other one I used to have, but I don't know why.

Any suggestions welcome and thanks in advance Smile

Bisacodyl are very effective and are easily available in most supermarkets . They can give you stomach cramps but they do work much better than senna , which frankly are useless .

Have you tried eating prunes? I find this works much better than laxatives but I was really slow to discover this!

Dulcolax (Bisocodyl) are good. I have permanent bowel problems and they are my back up med when my prescribed ones (Manevac and suppositories) fail.
If it's a constant problem tho, do go to the GP.. something like Movicol/Laxido is a gentler way of shifting poo!

The active ingredient of 'old' Ex-Lax was phenolphthalein.

Yes. The colour indicating laboratory reagent.

Old Ex-Lax was withdrawn in the late 1990s due to its carcinogenic properties demonstrated in rat studies.

Although these carcinogenic properties have not been investigated in humans, phenolphthalein use in laxatives was discontinued.
